I have no idea. Seriously.
Came back after a 4 month sabbatical to check out how the rest of the world (i.e. Non Eve players) lived. Turns out they were as boring as hell and full of mediocrity and on whiney/whingy mode. Came back to Eve and well, lot of that going on here too but I can CHANGE that.
I'm back in Eve only 10 minutes and I'm stealing **** from someones can for shitz and gigglez.
I do a few high-speed passes through "bad scary man who wants to touch you" territory and play cat-and-mouse in an unarmed frig to see if I can get shot down - for shitz and gigglez.
I find some poor noob trying to make money on the market selling 3 or 4 types of rigs. So I do a trip to Jita, buy a heap and dump then on the market below cost - for shitz and gigglez. (well, he was rude to me when I stole from his can)
I joined recruiting and offered myself as a 120m l33t char and get 50 chat requests. Then I log.
I do it because I can and whilst it's nothing more than lame-ass tom-foolery, strangely, despite only being back 2 days, I'm starting to feel good again.
So I s'pose I'm asking you, intrepid Eve capsuleer, what did YOU do today to **** someone off enhance someone elses playing experience... |

That is the way noobs do it.
What you actually do, is take that noob and explain how dangerous what he is doing is, give him some pointers (but leave out KEY information) and then invite him to your corp. You then proceed to "become" his friend. You play together for months or even years, slowly amassing his wealth.
Then suddenly, like the stealthy liquid fart, you stab him in the back and steal everything and leave him bruised and battered on the wayside. |

Personally, i'm plagued with this idea that everything is pointless. I think it was probably my wife that put the idea in my head, after watching me play for so many hours over my life on so many different games. She'd say "God, what a complete waste of time". Though i disagree (entertainment is entertainment), i now can't help but think this every time i play a game. Doesn't help when you accept the fact that there is no god. (ooooh, controversial!)
Just spent like 3 hours building an awesome island on Anno 2070? Pointless! Just OWNED a bunch of NOOBS on counter strike: global offensive? Pointless! Just completed all the Max Payne games, again...... Pointless! Went old-school and replayed the origional Deus Ex? Oh, it was so good, but yet equally pointless. In fact, just about any single player game is essentially wasted time that you'll never get back. Even though i keep on playing so many different games, and love every moment, i still think at the end "well, that was pointless". I guess when it comes down to it, just about every action that us humans get up to all over the planet are essentially pointless. Apart from perhaps, reproduction.
EvE is the only game that i truely feel doesn't fit into this. You've always got something to aim towards, where you achievements add up over time and contribute to the totallity of your playtime. I can imagine myself playing EvE until my dying day, and still have something to aim towards.
Plus i'm a big sci-fi fan, which is a bonus. |

The story of it keeps me playing. Not just the chronicles and articles, but the stuff that happens. New ships released, new scams or heists pulled, new alliances rising (for me to rob, maybe?) Even though I'm basically retired, I have enough ISK to keep playing forever, and this lets me keep tabs on the fascinating politics of a star cluster in the distant future. |

Which, by and large, can also be the cause of people saying "I'm bored" which was sorta my motivation for the OP.
Accumulation for accumulations sake is well, pointless too. You could accumulate ISK, but you can buy that with RL. That negates the reward benefit somewhat.
You can accumulate territory. So I've been told. Tried it once or twice. Better to team up with someone that already did it and try to steal it instead.
The danger here is what do you do when you have "accumulated" enough of anything - imo, it's not a good goal because there will come a point where you reach a self-imposed end-game where none really exists.
I s'pose what I'm trying to say, what do you do that is just plain FUN in Eve?

What people find fun is subjective. Some find fun in the means more so then the end result. For example I found it more fun when building up a corporation and an alliance to gain space, then I did when we actually got settled and owned it.

Which was my point. I've built up so many corps/alliances + infrastucture and then torn them down just to do it again.
After my sabbatical, it's not happening again. So now I'm going to play for FUN. Puts a whle new slant on things when you log in with a "I don't give a **** what I lose today" attitude. Even Mittens talked about risk aversion as being a blight on Eve.
Perhaps all the carebears (of which I was chronically disposed to be) can learn something here and play Eve in the reverse.

Been playing constantly since pre-Empyrean Age, with between one and four accounts. I like to unwind at the end of the day after my day job with Eve: sometimes it's working on client websites while doing something AFK, or mining missions while post-processing various images from my REAL hobby...
I don't watch the teevee, don't do the Facebook hangout crap, and don't waste my time with station or gate camping. :) |
