So you can find people with scanner at fields/moons/etc. but not anywhere in between. Gate guns will rip you a new one. It just seems it is too easy for people to avoid fighting as all they need to do is stay aligned to something.
Does it get any better with big ships? I need to find solo targets in a field as fighting around gate guns isn't good for my health :P
Or should I just forget about the low-sec thing and find a nullsec corporation?

In high and low security space, there are penalties for engaging in PvP with someone who isn't looking for it. In highsec, CONCORD blows you up, but low-sec only has those pesky gate guns. So, if you want to avoid these, you have a few choices:
- Declare war on them
- Make them shoot first
- Join Factional Warfare (not as good as it might sound)
- Go to neg sec space
There's a fair amount of PvP that happens in lowsec, but often it's either quick ganks where you take gate fire just long enough to make your kill and run, or there's fancy dancing and baiting going on, often both. Bigger ships will help to a degree, the Hurricane is probably the go-to ship for low-sec pirates because it can hit hard and fast, has decent HP, and withdraw if you're losing.

In my experience, it gets better with cruisers and BCs.

Edited by: Annabell Ood on 30/07/2011 19:25:15 If your looking for PvP then I would suggest things like RvB FW 0.0 there are also PvP hot spots like Old Man Star and Aeschee. but I'm guessing that you mean "victims" when you say find people for PVP.
here are a few links that will teach you the basics- 1) D-scan guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii8tS7xRb0o

Alright. I'm a pirate as well as a FW guy. #1, you need a BC to engage and survive with good chances on low sec gates. #2, you gotta be smart. PvP is a thinking game in Eve. It's unlike CoD4 or any other, in that it's more of a patient man's RTS than a FPS (or maybe a third person shooter?) more about strategy. Frankly, I love low sec. There's way more traffic and targets than in null sec, and FW provides opportunity for fighting with frigates and cruisers (because since you're "war decced" against the other faction, you dont get GCC or gate guns). _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura

I have lived in 0.0, in lowsec, and currently in high sec. Personally I feel that low sec is much harder to get solo kills in unless you have been playing for a long time.
Try joining into Faction Warfare or Red v. Blue. Both of these will give you pretty fair fights.
I would advise to stay away from lowsec piracy and 0.0 PvP when learning.

Edited by: Aloe Cloveris on 31/07/2011 19:15:40 Give NPC 0.0 a try (there's npc 0.0 space in Syndicate, Curse, Venal, Delve, Stain, Outer Ring and some other region iirc). You'll still have stations that you can dock at and stage out of (unlike sov space). Good stuff. Also,
Gates and stations don't shoot at you. People belt rat and run missions/anomalies and the really dumb ones don't pay attention to local or d-scan You can anchor bubbles and force lazy travellers to fight away from the gate Unlike lowsec, you're not effectively limited to BC and BS hulls Other neat stuff
Gateguns are the stupidest game mechanic. Get out of lowsec entirely. It is dumb. |

I'm trying. After a fair amount (~50 maybe during my pirate days) of low-sec kills I'm sitting at a solid -10 security status. ATM I'm roaming around 0.0 killing BS rats in my manticore :P I hated rep grinds in World of Warcraft... and I hate them here. I will never screw with my security status again once I get it up.

The sec status award is calculated by the 'toughest' rat killed per system per ~15 minutes. So use that to your advantage. If you didn't already know, you can speed up the sec status grind by killing one BS in a system and immediately moving on to the next system. Make a circuit of systems that takes approximately 15-20 minutes to run through so the sec status tick for a given system has been awarded before you return. You'll get a veritable flurry of healthy (+0.200 or so) sec status ticks in a short period of time this way.
I personally hate ratting and generally only do it for sec status. This helps considerably. |

tbh, I feel that eve pvp consists of about 2 things: applying dps where your enemy can't, and holding them within range of your weapons / preventing them from escaping.
If they can't hit you back and they can't run, you will win eventually even if out of sheer boredom they self-destruct.
As an addendum I might add number 3: applying sufficient dps to overwhelm their tank before help arrives. 60 seconds is a good starting number I think.
One could also add in a number .9: Finding good fights. This category would include such things as combat probing, hot dropping, and what have you. This typically includes alts, spies, and movement tactics.
