Here's my timeline:
Approx. 12ms after opening the mail: When I first opened the mail in my inbox from an unknown character name, I thought something like "Who did the savages in my corp ganked now" since it was a wall of text that I usually get when bad things involving guns and "innocent" travelers happen.
Approx. 562ms after opening the mail: But, the AUR written in big cap letters quickly changed in my mind to begging/scam/spam.
Approx. 680ms after opening the mail: My hand already reflexively moved the cursor to the character show info option and brain prepared the mental image of opening the petition and reporting the pest.
Approx. 724ms after opening the mail: Then I saw a character that is 33 years old
Approx. 773ms after opening the mail: "CCP spam? In my inbox? No way "
Approx. 815ms after opening the mail: "33 you say? Heh... more like 14."
Approx. 1s after opening the mail: A corp mate started to talk about the upcoming wardec, I reflexively closed the mail window and forgot about it. Remembered that I still have that thing in my mailbox when I saw this post.
So, in short, it was a pretty "exciting" second of my life. I went from being happy (new hate mail from the victim), then disappointed (no hate mail), then angry (hate spammers,scammers,...), shocked (CCP's spam about totally useless overpriced MT feature), and finally slightly amused (the age of the character advertising barbie dress-up stuff in a "Cold, hard place like EVE Universe"). Then I've forgot all about it and went back to the game.
True story.

Well according to CCP they like doing things their own special way. This new marketing strategy of ****ing people off with NEX store advertising until they eventually leave is just one example I guess.
I for one cannot stand this forced type of marketing and even in real life will turn my back and walk off on salespeople trying to force things on me. I'd like to have a checkbox entered on the options menu where I can select to have no involvement with anything related to the NEX store.
CCP enough is enough, it's really just getting annoying now. You've actually managed to turn something that should have been a positive experience for me into a complete fiasco. Put the marketing monkeys back in their cage before they do more damage than good to your reputation.
p.s. yes I realise CCP couldn't care less what I think, but oh well I can live in hope that this aspect of the game will change for the better.

It is if they do not give you a way to opt out of it. In addition to reply to it costs you isk (CSP charge). Why wasn't THAT surprising?

If you have accepted to receive communications, then it's not spam even if you cant opt out. However I didn't see anything like this in EULA.

Now... I didn't quite like the Aurum store in first place, but were willing to live with it. Having NeX posters when logging in was already bit annoying. "EvE is real"-sites player driven advertising scam was step further into the swamp... But this is plain outrageous. Now tell me how I can opt out from all aurum marketing. I can opt out from direct marking in real life, so I expect that to be possible in game also.
Thank you for ****ing me again with dear CCP :excellence: Hilmar's vision.

IMO, using the in-game email to "advertise" game features is fine. However, instead of a general email, it really should be a notification email with its own category.
What I find amusing is that clicking on the "capsuleer museum" in the in-game email tries to open the "evisreal.net" site, but fails because flash isn't installed (and can't be installed as far as I can tell.)
