I have always favored small ships for PVP as i am a huge fan of solo action. Frigs, AF's, Cruisers, hacs/recons.
I am now looking to get into some bigger ships for fleets and solo. Got a few questions about them as i would consider my self a nub to flying these ships I am listing.
1.) Would you prefer to Kronos or the navy mega in Fleet? Fleet makeup would be armor fleet.
2.) what would be a good fit for a first time Thanny pilot. (All my skill pertaining to Gallente Carriers are at 5 and 4.)
3.) Should i fly the mega before i fly the vindi?
4.) Best ship to use for practice before flying the mach?
5.) Mach or vindi for fleet pvp?
Thanks in advanced. I know some of the questions are vague so bear with me.

1. Navy Mega since the Kronos would get jammed to buggery, like your q3. Try the mega first. More importantly, how would it fit in with the people you will be flying with?
2. It's quite versatile and it's use would entirely depend on the fleet you are flying it with so I'd get yourself in a corp that has experience in these fleets and take it from there.
3. Absolutely get some practice in with the Mega first.
4. Tempests or Maelstroms
5. Machariels are very handy in fleets but its more a question of the fleets you fly in, namely shield or armour, and what ranges you will be flying at. Overall Machariels are preferred since they can control range, have greater ability to leave the field.
These are just general points but I hope it helps a little.

1. Kronos is a marauder. Marauders have the sensor strength of a jet can (almost). Feel free to stick your neck out for the team by brick tanking it to **** by acting as an aggro harvester. Pop a strong exile booster, overload all that matters and hope it works. It's your loss anyhow. The navy Megathron is just that; a better Megathron but still a Megathron. What kills a mega will kill the navy just as well. It will die slightly slower. Know that. Also, space jungle camo. You want that! Give the man some soup?
2. Situation, situation, situation.
3. Yes. Get a "feel" of the hull with the econoboat first. It would be sad to blow up a billion ISK ship because "you did not know"
4. What she said. I add nano hurricanes to that.
5. Situation, situation, situation. Try a shield Mach then try a trimarked Vindicator. Once you go Mach you don't come back.

The Tempest is a lot closer to the Mach in all its base stats except for fitting and shield capacity. You could drop one of the guns off the Maelstrom and fit the lows/mids like you would on a Mach and test things out that way, but it's still a brick that can't mimic Mach agility at all.

I would say train for the mach in a nanophoon with projectiles.
Why? Because it is so much harder to keep alive (slower align, lower top speed, less EHP). Once you can keep a nanophoon alive, keeping a mach alive will be a walk in the park. Nanopest comes a close second (because it is slightly easier to fly than the nanophoon). _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Actually that's a very good point.
Learn to keep this Hurricane out of scram range, once you have some understanding of the mechanics of that, move on to a nanopest and see how you get on with that. You can get a ton of experience this way before your first truly expensive lossmail comes in.

Also a vid called "there be dragons" shows 'practice Machs' in use.
