Event Horizon still creeps me out at times. and sure is an interesting if not negative look on FTL travel.
Then again.... maybe that is why we need sCynos in EVE.... so you dont have your Avatar Titan go Event Horizon lol.

Well to keep building this list, I leave you all with this strange Norwegian Film <If you have seen DEAD SNOW you will understand Norwegians are ... interesting>, so please watch:
TROLL HUNTER!!!!! <---- I still find Norwegian humor a bit hard to understand, but it's there, once you see some of their movies you get the feeling in it, they kinda "plank" on it. Any norwegian here is free to enlighten me in their humor. WATCH TROLL HUNTERRRR!!!!!! :P ---Eve is not dying, its being murdered ----

If you liked that you might like Fritt vilt (Cold Prey). I know I did :) More horrory and not as army-of-the-dead like as Dead Snow tough. Ein Zwei Die I haven't seen troll hunter but it looked very interesting.

Yeah, no....somewhere near the middle of the movie they pull an M Night Shyamalan on you.

Oldboy is a great movie imho, but it is as much horror movie as Shindler's List is a comedy one ---

Haven't really watched that many 'Horror' Sci-Fi movies, as I don't believe Science Fiction really should be about scary stuff, as it should be about how humanity could be in the distant future (my opinion anyway).
But I just recently watched Event Horizon, and I really liked it, all sorts of f***** up stuff goin on in that one, lol.

Sphere (1998) <--- not that bad IMHO
also:
The Abyss (1989) <--- more like underwater version of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but has few creepy moments

The Abyss was excellent. Sphere was better as a book, I suggest reading it before watching the movie. You'll still enjoy the movie after the book, but they changed so much that its better you get the story in paperback form to enjoy before letting the abbreviated nature of the movie ruin it.

The Abyss is one of my favourite movies. This scene is so awesome but it is usually cut from the movie. The movie also has a 'good' and a 'bad' ending. Sphere was pretty terrible movie though.

Best horror movie ever.
BTW, few people know that this is actually a remake from the pretty good The Thing from Another World (1951)
There's a prequel coming out this year, no idea if it'll be any good.
I agree. In terms of pure horror .... nothing comes close to The Thing. The Union of the Snake [SNAKE]

Agreed, good movie. I also liked Pandorum, and Cargo (not really horror, rather a conspiracy thriller of sorts).

I'm probably going to be very disappointed but the previews look awesome, like Alien awesome but nothing will beat Alien... ever. Because it was (and is) still the most awesome horror movie ever
According to the library of Congress, forgot where I heard it but apparently the top grossing movie in history.

I guess that I am old and cynical but I haven't really found too many good quality SF movies over the years. There's been loads of attempts but to actually say that Xyzzy was a good film is hard to do. To make it even harder we're asked for SF Horror movies.
I did see The Man Who Fell To Earth once and that was horrendous. But I don't think that this counts.
I still keep coming back to the Alien series. The first is a true classic and is a real horror film but set in space. The second was okay but typical gung-ho Cameron.
And then we have the strange circumstance of Alien 3. The studio release of this film was dreadful; the first time director lost every battle with the studio who succeeded in turning something moody and magnificent into some unintelligable script which made no real sense whatsoever. The effect was so bad on the director that he nearly gave up the business but, thankfully, he didn't and went on to make Fight Club.
If you haven't seen the Special Edition of the film, the one which has been restored by the crew, then do so. It's not the Director's Cut as he refuses to go near it again as he claims that it would be just too painful. But what has been reassembled is simply a masterpiece. The whole film has this wonderful feeling of decay on a desolate spot in the middle of nowhere and the mood just filters through to every scene. A lot of people detest this film but judging it by only seeing the original release. This, sadly, is a mistake as the third film is, arguably, the best of the four.

Edited by: Vogue on 10/08/2011 04:06:38 Alien 3 is a good movie. The dregs of humanity pitted against the soulless alien. And at the end the corp send in a team to shaft the humans who survived and to try and bag the alien inside Ripley. But the whole totally amoral mega corporation theme is very worn out now. This is what soured my impression of Moon.
Winona Ryder as Annalee Call the android in the last Alien film makes me chuckle as she has a nascent sense of humanity that bubbles above everyone else and the cynical hybrid Ripley recognizes this

Alien 3 had its moments and was decent, a stellar cast with some great performances (charles dutton prayer scene for eg and charles dance as the doctor) were let down largely by the plot and expectations IMO. The main criticism would be that following the more popular aliens which was action more than horror and had the "hollywood" treatment, going back to a drama mirroring the original alien movie meant the new fans of aliens were left disappointed though HR Giger would have been pleased that his alien was once again a stalking terror rarely seen rather than something to be mowed down in a hail of bullets.
