So I was sitting here thinking about a couple of Sci-Fi horror movies I really enjoyed "Event Horizon" and "Pandorum" wondering if there are any other movies like them around. I know all about the Aliens ones of course but the thing about being trapped on a ship in the middle of nowhere with no help is entertaining to me.
My top movie still has to be "Aliens" even tho the comapany sent out a big F off spaceship loading with all kinds of toys and for some odd reason just 12 colonial marines or so on it. Could have been a little cooler with a few more marines I think.
So I leave it to you all to add your Sci-Fi horror movies that you enjoy (or just really good Sci-Fi action/thriller/horror movies. I dont class super crap B movies as entertaining and would enjoy to watch a few more movies like the above.
Thanks in advance

Well the last sci-fi horror movie I watched was "Sunshine". I thought it was pretty decent. But I'm a terrible judge of horror, half the time I'm laughing and mentally play a game of Clue with the characters. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

The Thing (1982)
Best horror movie ever.
BTW, few people know that this is actually a remake from the pretty good The Thing from Another World (1951)
There's a prequel coming out this year, no idea if it'll be any good.

Thanks everyone keep them coming, more of the space themed ones would be cool.
I'm also a really big fan of the Warhammer 40k story line and would love it if they did a Sci-Fi horror about say an imperial guard ship going through the warp and having guests invite themselfs aboard (deamons). If only hollywood threw a ton of money behind those story lines and had an awesome director like Ridley Scott or the guy that did the Event Horizon movie, now that could be great.

True Aliens is not a horror movie, almost the same lines as the Evil Dead movies went from horror-horror/comedy-comedy/horror but more so the action it went towards.
It would be cool tho if more movies of this type were out there. I should write Hollywood about it so they stop making horrible vampire movies for little girls and start making real movies again.

Hmmm I might say I find the movies posted here extremely americanized.
You need to watch
LInterieur <---- Mostly for the inner joke of the director at making mainstream american horror cliches obnoxious <if you enjoy french cinema you can learn to appreciate the subtle hidden puns>
Martyrs <----- An extremely interesting movie relating to the eternal french dilemma of freedom and the pursuit of it <regardless of the outcome> or if you just want to enjoy a good sadist movie, I'd reccomend it if you just want to watch brutalization of women in video. <tho its much more than that, totally love the new batch of french horror makers>
Altered States , not exactly horror, but good interesting soul searching amidst the chaos.
If you like Japanese movies, please watch this masterpiece Tetsuo the Iron Man , I watched it with some female friends and they for strange reasons enjoyed the anal drilling part <yep>.
Though not for everybody Nekromantik is a lovely german love story between a man and ... a corpse.
Moving on now to some old American classy underground acts, I wholeheartedly reccomend BEGOTTEN, it's simply a movie to be watched in seriousness due to the oddness and sheer graphical nature, also for the obscurity of it.
Hope this small list works for you.

Can't speak for the other ones, but + l'intTrieur (Inside) and Martyrs are not sci-fi but they are seriously horror. + l'intTrieur is one of my all-time favourite horror movies 9/10. Martyrs is an attempt to make the ultimate horror movie. It was so successful I won't watch it again. Not much of a sadist, but I did give it an 8/10.

Yeah I know they not Sci-Fi, but I'm currently away from sci fi stuff, so wanted to derail a bit while trying to keep in touch with the spirit of horror.
If you enjoyed those movies I'd reccomend another couple of french movies THEM and HAUTE TENSION , them is mostly about the reality of how fragile life can be and it can be a bit slow, the people in the US tried to make a remake of it of sorts with some altered plot and HAUTE TENSION well, is a sheer glorious HOMAGE to the GRINDHOUSE genre of the 70's.
The fact they are french makes everything feel familiar yet distant. Unfortunately Hollywood for the past years has tried to stick to the Blockbuster line of thinking and the Horror movie for Summer theme for the past 20 years. They have failed to sate my incessant craving of seeing people screaming for their lives to make my own life a bit better <horror movies relax me, I live in a horror movie most of the day in latinamerica anyway>
Also to try to keep in line , there's a truckload of very very good Sci-Fi movies from the 70s and 80s made in USA that if you can look past the cheesy FX will sate some Sci Fi craving:
Hangar 18
Also check Contamination, Saturn 3 <man I loved Farrah Fawcett back in the day when I was a kid>, Scanners <up to this day I still would love to make people's head explode by sheer willpower> and Videodrome.
Honestly, everything Hollywood spouts this day is Flashy Clothes, CGI galore and tons of Light FX, I'm not 15 anymore :/ we need more solid adult oriented hardcore films that explore forbidden, taboo areas of the human mind, even SEED was tame, though interesting proposal <If one can say anything good about an Uwe Boll movie I found the Hammering scene of the old lady, a step in the right direction that simply sidetracked and ended up being a cheap sadist **** movie, it was Uwe Boll anyway, cant ask much from him>
Horror needs to go beyond mutilated corpses and flying entrails and disemboweling cow innards <The 70's were good tho, I still miss Dario Argento and Fulci's movies>.
That's why I give my hopes to the Europeans/Asians, they trying to break the mold, sometimes they fail miserably, but sometimes, man they bring out good stuff.
This is a westernized horror sci fi ish movie from an original Japanese one I still find worthy of a rerun on a weekend with friends, PULSE.
Also a nice british action/horror movie THE DESCENT , enjoyable :) <skip part 2, it was an awful thing and honestly, it doesnt exist for me> ---Eve is not dying, its being murdered ----

Luckily, there's still South Korea for good (non-sci-fi) horror movies like Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Lady Vengeance and Black House (2007 remake). Oh, and let's not forget the beautiful Spanish The Machinist.

I guess that I am old and cynical but I haven't really found too many good quality SF movies over the years. There's been loads of attempts but to actually say that Xyzzy was a good film is hard to do. To make it even harder we're asked for SF Horror movies.
I did see The Man Who Fell To Earth once and that was horrendous. But I don't think that this counts.
I still keep coming back to the Alien series. The first is a true classic and is a real horror film but set in space. The second was okay but typical gung-ho Cameron.
And then we have the strange circumstance of Alien 3. The studio release of this film was dreadful; the first time director lost every battle with the studio who succeeded in turning something moody and magnificent into some unintelligable script which made no real sense whatsoever. The effect was so bad on the director that he nearly gave up the business but, thankfully, he didn't and went on to make Fight Club.
If you haven't seen the Special Edition of the film, the one which has been restored by the crew, then do so. It's not the Director's Cut as he refuses to go near it again as he claims that it would be just too painful. But what has been reassembled is simply a masterpiece. The whole film has this wonderful feeling of decay on a desolate spot in the middle of nowhere and the mood just filters through to every scene. A lot of people detest this film but judging it by only seeing the original release. This, sadly, is a mistake as the third film is, arguably, the best of the four.

Edited by: Vogue on 10/08/2011 04:06:38 Alien 3 is a good movie. The dregs of humanity pitted against the soulless alien. And at the end the corp send in a team to shaft the humans who survived and to try and bag the alien inside Ripley. But the whole totally amoral mega corporation theme is very worn out now. This is what soured my impression of Moon.
Winona Ryder as Annalee Call the android in the last Alien film makes me chuckle as she has a nascent sense of humanity that bubbles above everyone else and the cynical hybrid Ripley recognizes this

Alien 3 had its moments and was decent, a stellar cast with some great performances (charles dutton prayer scene for eg and charles dance as the doctor) were let down largely by the plot and expectations IMO. The main criticism would be that following the more popular aliens which was action more than horror and had the "hollywood" treatment, going back to a drama mirroring the original alien movie meant the new fans of aliens were left disappointed though HR Giger would have been pleased that his alien was once again a stalking terror rarely seen rather than something to be mowed down in a hail of bullets.
