Eve's ships and other things in the game using this technology would look rather nice.

That's really making it's rounds today isn't it. There have already been two or three posts in GD about it.
I'm counterspamming with this, whether it's true or not.

A guy posting on a blog about something he's not actually sure about like he knows everything about it. How novel.

tl;dr: Why are we processing hundreds of millions of pieces of data, when we are only going to display a couple million of them in the end?
Basically, it sounds as if this is a rendering scheme where the amount of graphics stress is fixed to the resolution of your monitor. So if your monitor has a million pixels on it, then the system only needs to render those million pixels - regardless of how many other data points exist within the scene ----------

This is ancient. There's a reason why you just see static worlds. It sucks for animation.

Except that the computer still needs to do something to figure out what to display for those million pixels. I'll be more convinced when the explanation involves more than just vague references to search engine technology and file compression techniques.

Yeah. What would the most successful independent game designer in the world know about game technology anyway?

Well, just because you're successful as a designer doesn't mean you know much about technology. I mean, the guy's engine is mostly just rendering a bunch of cubes, right? Quake was probably more advanced and it came out 15 years ago. ;) That could, of course, have been only for gameplay reasons. I guess we'll see if/when his next game has a bit more to render than simple primitives.
Having said that, and without watching the videos, I still think he is likely right in what he is saying. Voxels are not a new technology, and I'm sure notch has seen games that used them before, like Outcast, and recognized this "new technology" for what it is. As the weaknesses of the engine aren't mentioned in the videos (I'm sure notch didn't lie about that), it seems logical that those issues have not been solved.
On the other hand, there could be some game/genres where a modern voxel engine would be a good choice because the limitations might not be an issue.

It's voxels.
With that amount of data you'd be looking at a massive memory consumption because of the raw data that needs to be processed even with clever procedural tehniques - Hence you see a massive amount of repetition everywhere. Animation is not practically possible with such an engine either, at least not on the scale and detail they're advertising. I'm also a bit confused as to why they show console optimized to show 'how polygons are behind'. In one of the videos the guy is also showing a 'bug' in the shadow rendering, this is not a bug but a reality of the engine they're using. Since the geometry that's actually rendered changes every frame you will never get a steady shadow rendered.
Animation and physics are even more difficult to do.
But seriously, this 'technology' is pretty much obsolete now that stuff like tesselation is used more. That actually supports everything that voxels don't and will be at a similar level of detail in not too much time, at least functionally. Remember why people actually use polygons instead of voxels in the first place?

About a *potential* game technology on which none of the details have been released?
Nothing. At all.
Of course I'm not saying that this new way of doing graphics absolutely must be real, but since no details have been discovered about this, his opinion is as valid as a trained monkey's.

And since no details have been released whatsoever, nobody has anything to go on. The people behind this technology may as well have said, "Look! We have found a way to download the entire internet and store it on a 5MB flash drive! More details to come!"

Not sure if this is on topic but I played a game many years ago that used voxel graphics. Its not a new idea. The graphics were okay but nothing special and the game really sucked. The Game was Master of Orion III. Look it up if you want to see voxel graphics, old style.

Moo3 uses sprites and other 2d stuff.
Delta Force 1 and 2 were voxel games. Outcast and No Respect (old, unknown but underrated game) also used voxels.

You'll notice their channel only has those two vids, but they link older magazines. These guys have been talking about this for years. Not one or two years, YEARS, years. They keep popping up and comparing their engine to the latest games and talking a lot.
Still no one using it...
If it's not a total scam, then they are clearly leaving something out.
