I heard someone say that they saw someone in Uedama chat talking about a class-action lawsuit to be filed against CCP. Is it true? Has it finally come to this?
I mean, CCP has been about as ethical as Enron lately, and we all know where Kenneth Lay and Jeffery Skilling ended up. We all know what happened to Arthur-Anderson.
And Incarna IS really offensive, but does it really rise to that level of grievance?

Incarna is nowhere near what Enron was. CCP would have to practically shoot someone to get that bad.
Doesn't mean someone wouldn't want to sue them.
Its also possible that they were named in a suit along with many other companies as part of a larger suit, because when you sue someone, you sue everyone who might be related to the grievance.

Now, nowà
All Enrion did was inflate its earnings through poorly applied mark to market and hide its losses in illegally set up not-quite-third party entities. Ley was uninformed (and then dead), and Skilling was overconfident and too high on his own supply. The really fun stuff happened with the fees Fastow and Kopper could pull out of the whole mess.
àand Kopper almost got away with it too.
CCP is just being stupid ù different thing. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

Depending on whose ass is getting the action, I might or might not support this.

Err, what CCP has been doing lately is laughable, but I doubt there's any liability involved in sloppy coding and poor performance. If that were true, Microsoft would be out of business.

Wow did you just compare Enron to EVE? Do you even know what ENRON was? I live in CA and believe me, CCP is NO WHERE NEAR ENRON in terms of ethics

Yes those EULA's and TOS's prevent you from doing some as ignorant as suing a game company.
If you don't like their game, don't play it. It isn't rocket science to figure that out.

The EULA is what it is. I am not sure how it is in other countries but in sweden, if CCP actually does something that is illegal by swedish laws the EULA is null and void ( EULA cant circumvent the law ). That said, so far I havent seen CCP breaking any laws, swedish or otherwise. They are just being *BEEP*

Class action lawsuit? The guy has no gasp of reality and lacks any high school education.
And the OP, I sincerely hope that you understand how the class action lawsuit works and you are not here to inflame needless and baseless "rage" against CCP.
And how Enron debacle is whole lot different than CCP's recent action. It's like comparing Barack Obama to Adolf ******.
Why bring up a point from a public chat brought up by a teen with no decent education?

Hurr Burr yet another troll thread brought to you by Bart Starr. I can only guess you either lack details about who or what that Enron thing was, or you are really bad at the whole compare and contrast business. Move along. Didn't you quit?

Just takes some 'legal for dummies' and half-assed reading through the EULA to understand these things are covered. By all gaming companies. It's pretty standard to basicly say "we owe the intellectual property as well as the hardware, and reserve all right to do what the **** we want with it. You agree to these terms".
TL;DR CCP can delete your characters, send harrassment emails to your mailbox, block your mother for no other reason than her being ugly and fat, etc, if they just feel like it. And you agreed to it.
Anyone bull****ting in local about trying to do a lawsuit against CCP is just exactly doing that, bull****ting. Feed their trolling a bit and have some lols at the reactions. -

Edited by: Verun Joral on 03/08/2011 08:16:43 There's nothing for them to file a suit about, CCP is only legaly obliged to provide access to the servers to play the game and a limited amount of support, that's it, nothing else, even then they can pull the plug at any time they want and their only legal obligation would be to refund remaining subscription values.
Moraly they are obliged to provide a lot more, but this is not legality and the only thing that keeps them providing more than they have to is their need to keep people paying, you can cancel your subscription, but you can't sue them.

Ummm...don't forget shutting down power plants then claiming a shortage of power raised the rates ... hiding oil in pipelines then claiming it didn't exist 'cause it wasn't in the tanks, and raising the prices due to a shortage...the State of California especially would appreciate that mention.
Class action suit? You have to have class first. Obviously that's in short supply here.

Yeah, but most of that was just rules-lawyering and gaming the system ù finding every last loophole in the (de)regulation and squeezing it for everything it was worth.
Granted, much of their dealings with California were pretty much hinging on the politicians screwing up the deregulation to make it all possible, and from what I understand, they lobbied pretty hard to make that happen.
àthe ôinventiveö accounting and off-book entities were plain old against every financial law in existence and caused SOX. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

But that's the beauty of it. CCP is hiding our game inside a vampire and a dirt game claiming there's a shortage!
