Hello,
Just came from ingame help channel, they me, that minig sounds (Material sprackling on Asteroid, Laser beam) has been canceled?
This is a joke isnt it?
You are canceling FEATURES because of...what? Isnt the univesre silent enlough and mining boring enough?? Now its just a silent 1 click action ....for hours?
who decided this?
Listen, there are only TWO Elements that are available to create a great game-atmosphere:
1. graphics 2. sounds
CANCELING one of those features means canceling atmospheric elements of the game -
Why not just drawing a black room, too...? If you dont care about realistic ingame atmosphere???
Cannot believe this!

In space there is no sound.
So this is indeed realistic.

come on,
don't tell me for you mute-mining is as fun as staring at a dark black wall, too? ^^
Mining soundelements were the onliest features that prevented falling asleep from the chair when doing it;
Without enough atmosphere, at least mining-feature really is not able to elicit a breeze of entertainement for the players at all anymore...
A clear loss for the game -
VOTE against MUTE-mining, omg!

pretty sure one of the devs/gms mentioned that that was a mistake, and was being fixed... =========================

damn that! i like it just the way it is now. it only makes that annoying sound at the start of every cycle. turn up volume and you can afk mine much better because of it.
hope CCP never changes it back.

In deed, hear the mining sound.. oo check one of the miners.. ok move ore to orca.. snore a bit more.. hear sound.. repeat. perfect. and frankly after 4 or 5 hours the mining sound gets on my nerves.

And space ships keep flying at the same speed when they turn off their engines?
Eve space is liquid space so it is not strange to hear the sound of lasers chipping away the asteroids.

This.
Unfortunately, CCP doesn't have the best track record when it comes to fixing stuff, or doing so in a timely manner (as in, within 3 years) __________________________ Obi-wan only felt that way about Mos Eisley because he'd never played Eve Online |

I turned off the sound in-game within the first week of playing and haven't looked back. There's not a ton that the sounds actually add to the game, they're mostly just flavor, and I'd rather listen to music or the TV than a constant buzzing of mining lasers or some such.

There was nothing wrong with the sound or the graphics before.. Mining still works..but I'm not sure why the changes. Maybe this was the industry update for this year?
Honestly, I would take these mediocre changes in stride if only someone would do something about the cargo stacking bug; you know the one that causes phantom unmovable stacks? I love complex systems..but there is no reason to keep bugs as part of the complexity.

Then you have the option to turn down the sound or even turn it off... but leave the sound for the rest of us who occasionally want to hear it.

Wait Eve has sound? I just play music while playing Eve. While either way just restart the client see if that works, restart the computer if that doesn't work. If both don't work could always try reinstalin Eve, though i recomend downloading offline instaler, so you can at least play while it's downloading. Or do what I do and play music in the background. May I recommend a little country music while mining, listening about tractors, farming, etc seems to be fitting with the whole mining business.

Some also smoke a ciragette while playing....also some drink alkohol and probably some do something else I don't want to know when they and make a kill - but thats not the point:
It's all about what player CAN experience in the game or the other way around: what the game lets experience the player.
If there is a "techical" reason for animated turrets or walking on a station, sounds at mining-act are also much more than justified - there's really no way out if you plan to deliver good adn "rounded" entertainement for your player.
At least, reducing features means reducing gameplay-fun and experience. There are lots of reasons for a cool sound-atmosphere at industrial events. Finally lots of time is spended for mining, too.
But if this is just a silenced act and there is no entertainement - how should this minig-act be ever fun? Its just....yes what?
A too boring muted one click on the mouse.
CCP, you could do better.

I only started seriously mining after Incarna came out so I don't really remember the mining sounds that clearly. I don't really think I miss them. It makes a sound to let me know a cycle is ending which is good enough for me.

Heh, mistake? To me it's been one of the most useful features introduced since I started playing again a few months ago. As others have mentioned, the sound fires approximately once every cycle (with a bit of leeway for random errors), and thus kills the need I previously had for obsessive compulsive checking of my lasers every three minutes, or the keeping of an onerous three minute timer. I was finally able to watch movies fullscreen and just alt-tab out whenever I heard the lasers fire back up, as oppose to keeping a constant eye on them.
I already used to keep all my views zoomed out to the maximum to avoid the incredibly obnoxious sound the lasers formerly made, but still liked to keep the sound on so I could hear the chatter warning of incoming rats. Now I get the best of both worlds. (And pssh... who actually spends time staring at EVE's graphics? Most of the time it just looks like a bunch of squares and boxes of varying colours to me, combined with a plethora of menus. Might as well be playing Galactic Empire, graphics-wise... I tend to spend a full five minutes staring agog at every new ship I purchase, and afterward it just gets perma-zoomed along with the rest.) |

You mean that obnoxious grinding/scrapping sound mining lasers had or the slightly less obnoxious grinding/scrapping wet surface that strip miners made?
Are you serious? Both of those had to be the most irritating sounds i've heard in a game be played thousands of times. I'd turn the sound off but i need it on for other things.
Besides now the formerly annoying useless noise as now a still annoying but useful noise in alerting us that the cycle has finished. Progress!

Lets see...
I mine - ore, missions, etc...
Apparently I do it for 9H a day according to the ranks on EVE-Boards - my miner that is.
Yes - there is a sound on all the mining/harvesting modules on the activations...
This does have a mixed blessing - it is rather annying to listen to mining lasers in your head for several hours - hence the "lower turret sound option" - and it does have a nice signal to come to the KB and change out the ore/ice/gas I guess... but...
it does hose up immersion totally, but then most of the sounds in the game do that.
The effects do it also,
The lack of some turrets - miners/harvesters/gas/salvager/tracs not tracing/swaping right are there also... great when you turn and your beam goes right though your ships hull and out the other side...
So, for now and always, just try to cope with it, and if you can't deal with it turn the sound off and listen to somehting else...
you have to count the working blessing with EVE because with every update comes new broken stuff.

I hope you are correct Velicitia. I have been asking for a while whether removing the sound from Strip Miners & Mining Drones was intentional or an error but have had no response either way. People generally like to slag off mining as a profession but I personally still like to do it along with other activities. I tried to get it added to 'CSM crowdsourcing' but without any luck. Not enough support on my petition I presume.Maybe one day CCP will do something to EVE that we actually need and want.
