I have a question about the names of wormholes. I'm using the list on the wiki but the wormhole K162 says it's a generic exit. So does this mean its a random wormhole to a random W-space system? And I've seen this title in both empire space and W-space. What does it mean and what does it tell me depending on what system it's in?
Thanks. ________________________________________________ May the Force be with you. |

K162 is the default "Exit" of a WH, basicly its the out door from a connecting WH. The Entrance is the only named part of them.

Thanks Loki, I actually found a really great explanation on another thread. My bad for not searching better before posting this. ________________________________________________ May the Force be with you. |

Every active wormhole (WH) has two ends. One end is named in the format of a letter followed by 3 integers (e.g. B274, N766, R943 etc), other than K162. The other end of an active WH is always a K162.
So, if you're in a C2 system and jump thru a B274 WH you will emerge at a K162 in a hisec system somewhere. Similarly if you're in a C4 system and jump through an N766 WH you'll find yourself at a K162 in a C2 system.
A K162 does not come into existence until / unless the other end (e.g. the N766) is activated or opened. To activate the WH someone needs to commence a warp onto the grid of the WH. Starting a warp-to-100km-from, in a cloaked ship, and then immediately cancelling the warp **will** activate the WH and will spawn the K162 at the other end. Locating the WH (e.g. the N766) and bookmarking it will not activate it ... if no-one warps to it, it will stay where it is forever, with its signature 'numberplate' (e.g. ABC-123) changing each downtime and server crash. Once the WH has been activated, and the K162 spawned at the other end, it's despawn timer starts and it will disappear after the appropriate time (e.g. approx 16-hours, 24-hours etc) ... unless it despawns sooner due to the mass of ships passing through it.
K162s are not all identical however. The colour of the WH graphics give you an indication of what type of WH has spawned that K162. The size and the 'activity' (wobbliness) of the WH graphic, both the K162 end and the originating WH end, also changes at it nears despawning ... whether due to the passage of time or mass.

Hey thanks so much for that reply. It answered some of my other questions I had. I think I'm good now. ________________________________________________ May the Force be with you. |

Edited by: HopeAndFear on 13/08/2011 04:10:15 You can tell roughly where a K162 will lead - the info (must be on-grid with the hole) will say "leads to unknown space" or "dangerous unknown space" for the higher-end wormhole systems. Others will say if they lead to highsec, low, or null. |
