Production is a mess. It is painful and slow to build even ships, and involves all kinds of clicks all over the screen. So who does it for the thing that gets produced in lots of 100, used by almost all players in lots of thousands, and sells for extremely thin profit margins?
That is a huge amount of clicks for basically zero isk, right? Is it bots?

Are you making the assumption that someone can't queue up several million units of production in one go?
I will often queue up a few (tens of) thousands of scourge missiles before logging off for the night. Does that make me a bot? Or perhaps I'm just so lazy that I'll manufacture the missiles rather than travel four jumps to and from the nearest market hub to get my scourge missiles at 5% above cost to manufacture?
Don't blame bots for your lack of understanding of the manufacturing process.

i produce ammo in 1 month intervals, so every month i ship about 10million units to a random trade hub.

I'm not blaming anything, it was just the only solution that came readily to mind to the connundrum of so many clicks to so little isk. Thanks for your answer. I'd like to hear from others in the t1 ammo development biz, too. How hard is it? Do you actually make isk at it?

Given that I was in a crappy system (Foves) and saw the highest price buy order for mexallon in all of the Dodixie region(even beating Dodixie sell orders) and 60 billion isk worth of it I'd have to say some industry may be seeded by ccp, because honestly who buys that much mexallon for more than they can get it for elsewhere.....

I'm pretty sure that with the right skills you can spin off batches of over a million rounds of any given ammo type in the allotted 30-day production window. I can produce a million rounds in 27 days with a non-maxed print, for instance. A handful of diligent manufacturers can supply tens of millions of rounds between them a month for minimal cost to themselves. Profit is made up for in sheer volume. The margins may be slim but as long as they're there then someone will be interested in pursuing them.

I suggest experimentation with the number alongside the word "runs". You may find a tremendous improvement in scale of economy for installation costs on small value items and a similarly tremendous reduction in mouseclicks per item built.

I don't like working out of main trade hubs for such common items. So I find off-systems and sell for a high profit margin.
Right now I have some stuff selling at twice the cost it took me to manufacture it. Sure it's not moving like crazy, but that's just fine with me when I'm making such a high profit margin and I don't have to babysit the sell order to play .01 isk games.

I used to make it when I first tried out manufacturing as there's little to lose. It's not worth making it for profit, as it's much cheaper to buy looted T1 ammo from mission runners, which is available in large quantities and can be bought up at 0.01 ISK per unit.

While in nullsec, I often purchase all the T1 ammo of a specific type and sell it across multiple stations (however, this is in an area where a single station can be completely, utterly isolated from another station 2 jumps away). I can raise the price by a small amount (sometimes 10%) and hope it sells over a long period of time, or raise it by massive quantities, sell a little bit in a few days (until someone else manufactures some more), and consider the rest ammunition I would need anyway.
Of course, I tend to be poor all the time, so.... ____________________________________________ [center]Due to the overwhelming number of people with "Red" in there name, I'd consider it required that everyone call me LOMPOCUS from now on![/c |

It isn't actually a huge amount of clicks. You can make a decent margin off it so long as you research various markets.
Just because something doesn't have a good margin in Jita doesn't mean it won't be valuable somewhere. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Production of any item in EVE takes time, reletive to the complexity of the item.
T1 Ammo is perhaps one of the simplest thing to produce, its good for filling empty production slots, convert some of your minerals into ISK and keep your fellow captuleers stocked with there favorite NPC killer

Edited by: Cpt Greagor on 11/08/2011 10:32:21 There honestly isn't that many clicks in T1 manufacturing, all the clicks you always here people complain about mainly comes from invention and T2 manufacturing, which, yes, there is a ****ton of clicks involved in that.
Edit- And some advice as to selling T1 ammo, sell it in systems that have very good L4 agents. People pay for convenience. R A I N B O W S |

Same here. T1 ammo sales is all about location. The trade hubs are not a good place to sell them, their is simply too much competition and if you are dealing out their you are basically counting on volume which I suppose their may be ISK in but I think the margins are just to tight to make it worth while and the market is overwhelmingly flooded.
Selling ammo in remote systems, close to null space entry points, or even in null space station makes for a very nice profit. Risk vs. Reward.
But ya I bought a lot of ships thanks to a little operations I had going in Reblier a while back for example, selling T1 ammo at near 100% profit. So there is plenty of ISK to be made, and it is in fact all about being creative.

+1 I produce t1 for hubs I live near/in. It's easier to produce even a t1 item at low margin and save the hauling timesink than to ship refined ore. Ever moved a hauler full of trit.... it's boring and practically pointless. But this way hey... more isk and less needed space! In the right market it sells MUCH faster anyway. *-------------------------* PoX IS Eve!!! BOOM!!! |

I mine and turn the minerals into ammo at a mission hub. I estimate I make 50% more selling the ammo that I would selling the minerals.

Every time I checked I found that ppl were selling missile for below the mineral value
but that projectile ammo was fairly decent in terms of profit margin
so I used up all the minerals i get from repro'ing meta 0-3 loots and drone alloys and use it on ammo
w/e i don't use myself I can sell, it's cheaper then buying the ammo and I make slightly more ISK then just selling the minerals
