So I was watching some of the AT videos today on youtube, and after I finished watching a couple of them, I came up with this crazy idea...why not add an instanced PvP option to EVE? Many other MMO's (most of them actually) incorporate both open world and instanced PvP as options in the games gameplay, and based off of the relative success of the AT's it seems that it could be pulled off in EVE as well.
It could be a queue up matchmaking system with different queuing requirments, such as a solo queue, premade team queue etc. Matches would obviously either have to be filtered by ship types or skillpoints to keep the pilot selection fair but that would not be too difficult. Each match would have boundaries just like in the alliance tournament, so if a player drifts too far from the center of the arena they are destroyed.Players would have to queue with their own ships, and the rewards for winning a match could be either ISK or LP, and maybe a set amount of time to collect loot off the field.
Any ideas or opinions on this? I personally think it would be pretty awesome, and would add a lot to the PvP side of the game by balancing out the awesome open world action with a quick arena style match whenever their is some downtime in the game.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Maybe an arena-type style of pvp for trading hubs like Jita, Dodixie, etc.

Yeah, I didn't really mean global queue. It would need to be some type of specific region/station queue.

No.
You can arrange fights at a safespot if you wish but creating instances is a big no-no and will never be implemented.

Because it's a dumb idea that doesn't fit nor has any place in the EVE universe, you can already do all of this ingame pretty much... without the instancing.

I think it would be a pretty cool addition to highsec. also capsuleers should be able to park their ships at the edge of the battledome to watch fights and bet on them.

That sounds like it would be fun.
One of the really cool things about eve is that it's largely player driven. How about instead of asking CCP for that you organize a tournament? I would participate, possibly.

There should be no where in space where you can hide, instanced areas are a big no no.

Edited by: Siri Buelle on 13/08/2011 14:13:14 I would only start considering this if the ship you lost was lost for good like in normal pvp, but again my final answer would 99% be no.

I don't like the idea. My main beef is that instanced PVP takes away from world PVP.
Besides, EVE already has intanced PVP. You can download the singularity test server any time you like, and instanced pvp your little heart out.
No but really, all jesting aside. Instanced pvp will only take good pilots who would normally be running vital combat operations for their alliance/corp, and turn them into that guy who only does battlegrounds all day long.

How do you reckon?
ePeen does not kick the unworthy from their space nor does it steal their women or molest their livestock.
- Make it a PvP-Lite/Practise type of thing where no mails are generated and no loot is dropped. - Arena is a beacon with a various configuration options such as "allow on-grid warping, size/shape etc. - Combine it with a bookie near the arena to add spectators and/or a ladder to add competition. - Have registered fighters be automatically flagged to one another upon entering with all other 'regular' mechanics in place (incl. Concordokken). - No rewards other than a % the pot. - Add a license to run such betting enterprises in a pirate/mafia themed low-sec revamp.

No.
You can arrange similar fights to this with existing in-game mechanics. If you really want completely risk-free arranged rubbish there is the test server, otherwise how about you do some proper PVP.

Holy crap ... The "EVE IS REAL" and sandbox thing is allready ****d brutally by people flying 2-5 alts simultaniously (talk about immersion there)
Instanced "Battlegrounds" or "Arenas" would annihilate the last drops of immersion this game has to offer.

As much as I know the local forum warriors rage about it, Battlegrounds and Arenas killed open world PvP in WoW. Despite the way people act in EVE, most small and medium gangs are actually looking for the elusive 'goodfight'.

Sov warfare is a different beast entirely. Ironically, it's far closer to instanced pvp than anything else in this game: you have a time and date set, almost always have a good idea of opposing numbers and fleet comp, frequently opposing FCs are convoing each other with things like, "not going to leave pos in for another 5 mins, bio break" or "log off your titans and we'll jump in", etc.

Oh but I am .. almost daily (albeit in a slump at present).
Mugging some poor sap on the street is not the same as meeting him in a boxing ring. Arenas could provide special rules for individual fights such as worm effects or gangboosts for both parties .. you know civilized blood-letting to test ones mettle.

Say what? There was open world PvP in WoW while I was playing? (left shortly after BGs came in). The only PvP I ever experienced was plain murders .. just like 100% lopsided ganks make up the vast majority of PvP in Eve.
Not that it matters or can even be used as an example as there were zero repercussions whatsoever to being defeated .. may have changed since then but highly doubt it.
Majority of Eve players don't dabble out of fear of potential loss and will thus never get to experience it (no, being insta-popped on gate X does not count). Organized fighting could give that part of the playerbase a way to experience it without betting the farm.
Wouldn't use it myself, but being in the militia I see way too many people who have no clue at all due to never having been given a chance to even try it.

I consider ganks to be pvp, yes. The unfairness (to varying degrees) of most engagements give EVE a unique flavor to me, or else I'd just hop on BC2 or any other number of games that offer balanced and fair PvP as a selling point.

I don't see it as such a issue that we need instanced PvP to encourage them. Your average 'starter' or sov corp has a pretty decent SRP and that does a good job of getting otherwise bearish types into PvP.

There is zero reason this should ever be on tranquility, ever.
For those saying it would "add to highsec" - well, surprise, there are areas of space in which you can shoot each other.
Or wardec them.
Or drop cans.
No.
EDIT: if you go to Dodixie, it is already pretty much what the op wants |

Yep, this is the way it was/is. I don't know why people that never played WoW tend to assume stuff. There was no open world pvp in WoW ever, except mugging/camping, and that is like blowing up the house to kill a small spider.
I am truly tempted by the pvp idea with bookies and low life scum lurking, sounds just about right. I don't understand why all the tears (where they say noes it will ruin Eve PvP, I say what EvE PvP?), I guess some people are afraid they can't scam people into stuff like this anymore
Excerpt:
Originally by: Jester In any kind of high-sec 1v1 fight, you should pretty much assume that the other guy will:
get his buddies to undock and rep him; get his buddies to log in and rep him; get you to take from one of his corp's cans so that his whole corp can attack you; get you to take from a buddy's can so that the buddy (in something sniper-fit and/or nasty) can attack you; have officer mods fitted; use boosters, particularly illegal boosters; have Snakes or Slaves or Halos or Crystals fitted; and, have an off-grid booster that he is fleeted up with.
And if you agree to have the fight in low-sec, you can also assume that his off-grid booster will be a Titan.

I've often thought that the ability for a corp to setup a combat zone, with a cash value for the winner and nominated acceleration gate limits for number and type of participants would be an interesting enhancement to EVE.
I've killed plenty of stuff in my time but its all been a little ad-hoc, there isn't anything wrong with real 1-vs-1 you know,

Except for the alliance tournament that is.
It would be good if it was part of the sandbox. That is not truly instanced like AT.
Have alliances be able to buy arenas with protection upgrades like sentry guns and ecm towers. They can put on these shows but others may still try to disrupt them. -Cearain
