Basic gist: Using internet 'aliases' instead of our real names is now illegal. No court order, or anything at all for that matter, is needed to monitor people and intercept their internet traffic. There are forced changes to ISPs which will allow people to be monitored in real time and more efficiently.
I didn't think it was possible to devise internet regulation even more totalitarian than China, but here we have it. Think twice next time you start trashing der furher Stephen Harper online. That's also now illegal. Even more so if done under an alias.
Whole thing is just terrifying on so many levels.

The worse Canada gets, the better.
This means more Americans will have to stand and fight here instead of fleeing north.
There is nowhere left to run.

I'm thinking with how docile and passive most Canadians are it probably will go through. One good thing about Americans is they're quick to protest things like this.

Edited by: VKhaun Vex on 13/08/2011 05:26:59 Edited by: VKhaun Vex on 13/08/2011 05:26:43 1) I'm sure some idiot thought it was a bad idea that the mail had return addresses on it, too. No one ever knew who sent a carrier pidgeon!
2) People have this ridiculous assumption they hold as gospel; that they are somehow entitled to 'internet rights' that make no sense in the context of society.
If you NEED to communicate without being persecuted there are venues for that (which they use every day in China) but there's no reason a game has to be anonymous. There's no inherent human 'right' to be anonymous on the internet. It's fantasy. It's a coincidence of circumstance that we have it today.
2) Requiring a real name doesn't force people to put up real names publicly, it opens up the law to force various companies to release billing info to reveal names. Something they can already do in America, Canada, and other countries if they do enough paper work and wait long enough.
This is not a new capability, it is an expedited old one.
3) Your characters will always be able to be named and game devs will make the obvious adaptive step of using character names for more out-of-game stuff like the Forums. Even here on EVE forums it doesn't use my account name, rather I pick one of my characters.
EDIT-- 8) I can't count.

Grow it even more. Stupid laws never go into actions even if they passed through. Experience of humankind history proves it.
Your not liking my post does not mean yours any better. Want everyone's thinking the same way? Accounted for and censored? I think you need to live in Iran. You will like it there probably. Or pick any other dictatorship. That's for you buddy. Now go support that law. I don't give a ***t about your support or denial of it. People deserve the government they have since if they don't want it they can throw it out. Also humankind history proven.

You still here? What is it? Car broke down and its too long a walk to show your deep support for this law? Write a letter, editorial, whatever else dont forget to kiss the one who presented that law. Show your support. For example start posting under your name and not alias. Or you afraid of something? Internet identity thefts may be? Or Internet fraud schemes which will be a whole lot easier for scammers to do. Oh and please buy monocle too... i want more good laughs. That monocle stuff was actually good idea. For lolz.

Oh really? Are you somehow implying that there are any human "rights"?
Originally by: VKhaun Vex Requiring a real name doesn't force people to put up real names publicly, it opens up the law to force various companies to release billing info to reveal names.
Oh really? I'm sure you're an expert lawyer and will handle any case that interprets the bill differently than you do. For you "Opening up the law" apparently means putting more power at the arbitrary whim of fools, but then again who's the bigger fool...
I can only hope that you'll someday learn or never reproduce/vote.

Implying that there are any human rights? Is that a semantics bait because of how I worded it? Or are you saying people have no rights?
You cut off the part of my quote that explains the second statement you quoted...
6/10 troll.
I'll give you 4 because someone else will probably argue your ******ed answers. If the thread dies then I was wrong then you're at 2/10.

Stuff like this is really nightmarish. First it might seem reasonable but think about it:
You have an opinion that is fairly opposite to some other person / group who are willing to "take matters to their own hands". Suddenly you cannot convey or converse about those things or risk getting your head smashed in or thrown in jail by the government if you use alias.

It is a fact of life that there are no inherent rights. Governments are the ones who grant you those temporary privileges and they have proven often enough that they will deny them if they feel the need.
Originally by: VKhaun Vex You cut off the part of my quote that explains the second statement you quoted...
The fact that the possibility existed before does not make it a sensible law. Every country has stupid old laws that are rarely enacted but still kept because governments know that giving away power is not a good idea. Even if it may not be enacted for most people it is not a reason to gamble with laws and allow randomness and more lawyer interpretations.

You mean, unelected governments will simply deny the rights of a population. Wait, it doesn't work like that. A first-world government generally exists to serve its people . No service, no power.
Take off your tinfoil. Not everything is a conspiracy. Except for the people always watching. Always.

No, I mean governments. Dictatorships don't pop up out of nowhere, and they don't simply become impossible because you have a "democracy". Their way is paved with laws like these... https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933 https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Reichstag_Fire_Decree https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Patriot_act https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Executive_Order_9066

G÷ring: Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.
Gilbert: There is one difference. In a democracy, the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.
G÷ring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Actually, the public hires their government to work for them, and the government cannot take any rights away from their employers. The public are the ones in power, or at least that's how the system was intended to work in democratic countries.
The way you're talking would apply to a monarchy or dictatorship. I will admit democratic governments are becoming more like them as time goes on, but it's not justified.
