So I decided to try the mining in missions thing.
I cleared all the rats and started mining with no problems. The next day after downtime, the mission was gone. I still had the mission, I had not turned it in, but there was nothing there when I warped to it.
I have since tried this on two other occasions with the same results.
I was under the impression that if you did not turn in the mission, it would respawn at downtime...
Anyone know?

The trick to recycling missions in general is to not complete the objective. In some cases this may mean leaving the mission-completion-trigger-ship alive but there are still plenty of missions are "Obtain this" or "Investigate that".

So if, you have a mission that says bring back the <something dropped in can>, could you then shoot the can to prevent someone else from accidentally picking it up and completing the mission?

Am pretty sure in "obtaining" missions that only the mission owner can trigger completion, but don't quote me on it. In theory the mission is only completed when you hand over the said item to the mission's agent so you can pick it up, take it back to the station, let it gather dust and it still won't complete. Since you can recycle missions for up to a week, you can even stockpile up to 8 batches/units of the mission item (excluding unscheduled downtimes) and sell the extras for profit or complete the mission quicker next time you get it.
"Investigation" missions usually trigger when you enter a certain room or get within X km of a specific entity, but no clue if others can trigger that for you.

Well I have not turned in the missions before and the mission complex or deadspace will be gone after downtime.
I'll try not completing the objective and see if that helps.
Thanks all

The deadspace should still be there. Did you return to the mission via a player-set bookmark or mission bookmark? I've noticed that missions move in space after downtimes so player-set bookmarks become stale but the mission bookmark updates correctly. Anything that is related to the mission move to the new location and wrecks and stuff stay in the old location, so always manually set one if you don't think you can salvage everything before a downtime.

I tried both actually.
Bookmarked a wreck. Next day after downtime... warped to it... nothing was there.
Warped to mission... Nothing there...
Sighed...

In a mission with multiple rooms, just don't clear the last room so that the objective isn't completed. If the objective is marked with a green checkmark, the mission will not respawn.
Probably the best mission for mining over a week is Break Their Will, as there is no spawn; just warp-in and start mining.

Any mission that requires an item to be returned is generally flagged as complete *when the item is dropped*. To keep the mission up, make sure that the objective in your journal is not checked. Generally you'll have to avoid killing some number of NPC's.
