Hi ppl,
Need help, is there anyway i can get my old pc to work, i normally only use it when i activate all my accounts which i did tonight and guess what Eve wont play on the pc as its saying my graphics card is to old. Is there anyway i can downgrade the graphics so it will run as im not going to buy a new graphics card just to play the game. Id rather not play it if it came to that.
Grrr bloody CCP this is not funny

If your Video card doesn't support a certain shader model then it won't work. You cannot downgrade the graphics in order to avoid this. Looks like you have to either upgrade the card(which isn't that expensive tbh) or well quit.
You can thank Incarna for that.

Well Eve has lost out as im not paying to upgrade my machine just to play eve when there are other games that work fine on it so they will lose out on subscriptions which i can see being many people as i cant be the only 1.
There should be an option for lower spec machines so that you can still play.

wait, you can't pay some 50Ç for a shader 3.0 card?
hell how old is your pc? granted Incarna is something that requires new cards, but even an ati X1600 should run EVE in space.
and that's an 8-year old card or thereabouts. ---

If you can't afford a simple shader 3 card then you shouldn't be paying a monthly sub to any game. Right now I am selling my old x800 GTO for under $30. This card only had 2.0 if I remember correctly. You should be able to find a shader 3 for a similar price used easily online.

wonder if it was the incarna upgrade to require an SSE2 capable CPU...

SSE2 cpu's aren't that recent too. I think P4's as old as the willamette were SSE2 (which was released on year 2000). AMD only brought SSE2 on the x64 cpu's tho (64bit K8-based ones). ---

I assume you have a desktop machine, otherwise you would have complained about how hard it is to change the GPU as opposed to state you don't want to.
The cheapest graphics cards that can (barely) run EVE can be purchased new for even as low as 30$ (LESS than a single EVE GTC), quite possibly less if you can find an used one. A graphic card that will run a single-client EVE satisfactory at reasonable detail can be obtained for as little as 45$. A graphics card that can handle even a single-client Incarna environment in max detail at somewhat playable FPS (and handle the space part flawlessly even with two instances open) can cost you as little as 65$ (actually, make that 50$ after rebate).
So... you could probably afford reactivating several accounts with cash (since you haven't exactly mentioned PLEX/GTC bought with ISK), but can't buy a halfway decent video card ? _

My God CCP and all the trolls on the forums have been going on about this for months, its not like they have sprung this one on everyone. There is an option for lower specced machines to play it's called X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter.

You can get old GFX cards suitable for the socket on your motherboard from ebay. Rather cheap even.
Also you could have checked if your hardware is compatible with the help of a lil probram called SM3 checker, before activating your accounts.
If you still insist on running EVE with your rig no matter the cost there is another program called "3D-Analyze", the game will start but with 5-6 FPS probably.

Sadly it only emulates SM2, not SM3, so it won't help anymore. _
