Ok, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I think there is a problem with the auto targeting system module.
I was looking to make my mission running go quicker, and stumbled along this module, and thought "wow, how awesome it that?! It's a module that does the targeting for me!" When I equipped it to my ship though, and went to my next mission, I tried everything in my power to make this work. I first started by turning the module on upon coming out of warp at my mission. When I noticed that my ship wasnt automatically targeting the NPCs I began to scratch my head. I logged out and logged back in to see if this might fix the issue, and I even went so far as clearing my cache and settings to make sure nothing was wrong.
When I logged back in I noticed that the module still wasnt causing my ship to automatically target anything. I decided to lock a target manually and fire a volley at the NPCs, and assumed that my ship might need to be fired upon for this module to work properly. But this also didnt work. I am at a dead end here with trying to get this module to work. Can anyone please inform me why this mod isnt working the way the name implies it should? |

the module is almost useless most of the time the auto targeting has been screwed up as long as I can remember
what they are good for is for their plus to # of targets ---------------------------------------------------------- WTB Sig must include NOS Domi KILLING Ponies other details to be discussed, EVEmail me for details |

As fare as i know, the Autotargeting system, is ment to extend the max ammount of targets your ship max can lock up. Usefull on a logistic ship where you can extend it to 13 targets i belive.

ya, but you can only lock like 12 with multitasking at 5(that said, my alt's scimitar has it and she's only at multitasking 4) ---------------------------------------------------------- WTB Sig must include NOS Domi KILLING Ponies other details to be discussed, EVEmail me for details |

I have it on a few of my mission ships as it's the only thing that will fit in that last high slot. In general its just useful for more max targets. The targets it locks is gimicky it doesn't always work properly. It will only target NPCs actively engaging you from what I noticed as well. In general it's better to go into options and set auto lock back targets or whatever it is to 12 in options (press ESC in game to bring up the options).

The ATS module works just fine. Just remember that it will only target those ships/drones that are actively aggressing you and within the module's range. I personally use them quite a bit on PvP ships where I can't fit anything else in the spare highs, and always use them on logistics and ECM ships to get the extra targets. For PvP, especially on interceptors, I find them highly useful for determining when I've got drones attacking me.

Don't you need to change the setting "Auto Target Back" to a bigger number before this module works? (it's under general settings->inflight)

Hate to say it, but that's probably one of it's best uses. And I like the auto targeter which is the sad part.

No. Its an active module, which means you have to have it turned on to gain the auto-targeting feature. However, the extra targets are a passive benefit, meaning you do not have to turn the module on to receive the extra targets. If you need to see this in-game, go practice with your buddy... Trust me, they are worthwhile modules for certain situations. For example, I fly an interceptor a lot in fleets, but I keep drones off my overview to help clean up my overview and screen. The beauty of this module is that this module tells me the instant someone's drones lock me up. I can then engage the drones or disengage from the fight.

If you just want a heatsink, you might as well leave the slot empty ù same effect, and you don't need to pay for the module and/or repairs. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

Heat Sinks are lowslot mods that increase damage and rate of fire of energy weapons (lasers).
Heatsinks (what Ultim8Evil is talking about) are modules that absorb heat damage when you overheat your mods using Thermodynamics.
Tippia is also correct in that an empty slot is better as it gives you the same effect without having to buy another module or repair it when it takes damage.

Had the same problem with it. Never got it to work as it should. Its supposed to lock hostiles that target/attack you, so i just lock 1 target and aggro, auto-target is on btw, so now it should target any goddamn thing from a whole group of ships attacking me....but sadly it wont. On god knows how many attempts, once, just once 3 NPC BS got locked without my help. So that is once in fifty attempts...so no, dont put your hopes up for the god-damned thing working. Just be happy the module can be passive and still give +3 locked targets.

Make sure the module is active, and it WILL target any enemy that aggresses you, that's inside the modules range. Notice that the range on the ATS I is 45km or something. If the aggressing ship is at 60km when it locks you up, the ATS will not target it.

Edited by: Songbird on 16/08/2011 13:47:01 I love to stick that module in a webbing loki if I have the slot - usually all t3s only have 5 targets max- with this it's 8 - much much better.
As far as targeting goes - why not take more active role in your gaming , hold ctrl down and then click the targets on the overview. To untarget hold ctrl + shift and click the target.

I had one on my Navy Slicer for a little while while I was fighting weak NPC frigs. With my guns un-grouped I was killing one target per small pulse laser turret firing time (which is something like 3s?) So it just got to be a pain to lock a new target every 1.5 seconds manually, especially with only 5 max targets.
Doesn't the module also instantly lock targets when the cycle complete? I could see this being useful on some big ship with terrible scan resolution vs. small targets.

Make sure your setting are configured to "autotarget back: X targets".
Already suggested, but you didn't say if you have done it or not. ------------------------------------------

Well, I'll admit I have limited experience with them in PvE (mostly belt rats), but I've used them a lot in PvP, and if the module is active, and if the target is in range, the module will automatically lock the aggressing ship/drone. It still takes your scan resolution into account, so if it takes you 5 secs to lock a drone-sized target, it will take the module 5 secs to lock up the aggressing drone. It doesn't depend on your auto-target back setting, because mine is turned off and the ATS still works.
