with the currant war dec mechanics thats a null and void point. it takes about 35 secionds to leave a corp and join a new one. yet it takes around 2 dats to war dec a corp. either way war decs are failed mechanics.

I'd go with 1/10, seeing as the original rating was 0/10 .
I love how newer players think that the corporations are meant as nothing more than tax evasion (as compared to NPC) and should have zero drawbacks...
Yeah, I learned my lesson the hard way =========================

Originally by: Tyears Seriously, in the real world can you go up to your government and give them some money for them to allow you to kill other people RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE POLICE? How does that make sense? This is basically bribing the police to break the law, how does that make sense in a society far advanced than ours?
EVE society is technologically advanced, not culturally advanced. All of the empire factions are riddled with corruption and crime.
PS If you think that police in RL dont get paid off or ordered to ignore crimes, then you're living in a dream-world. Remember that even the average mpire mission runner commands wealth that makes Warren Buffet look like an office boy.
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

1) keep kids in WOW not EVE.......this is true
2) keep destruction of isk up so the market dosn't flood and the game does not collapse......maybe
3) provide fun in high sec....most are only fun for the decking corp
4) provide Tyears......people who say they eat tears sound like creepers, sorry its true.

Well thats the exact mechanic we want.
Owning a corporation and being part of a corporation is a statement. It says "This is my team, my friends and represents our unified goals". A player should always have the option to walk away from a corp if it doesn't do what they want. War decs on the other hand are also a statement "We want you dead, you are our enemy and we will kill you all". You war dec people you want to kill, the reasons why you war dec are part of your motivation. Maybe its for profit, maybe the corp is invading your corps favorite mining area, maybe their corporate members are screwing up your market oppertunities, or perhaps one of the corp members offended you somehow. Whatever the reason is, you attack them, their members in turn have a choice to make. Either they stand by their corp and fight, or they run and hide and abandon their team.
Hence the system is designed to always ensure that if you don't want to fight you don't have to, but thats an individuals choice. As a corporation you are part of a community of corporations all with their own ideals and goals in a very competative enviroment. War decing is their to ensure that you can do something about your competition if you so choose.
Their is no such thing as ganking or griefing in Eve, thats a catch phrase made up by people who have goals and motivations in the game and think that they should be free to persue them unmolested. That would be grossly injustice to corps who are affected by your freedom negatively. Everyone should have the right to defend their investements and persue their goals, the fact that corps often have exact oppossite goals means their has to be a way for competitors to work out their differences. War is the ultimate resolution system. Anyone who has played Eve for any length of times knows that through war you can eliminate your competition and its exactly what war is for.
So the point here is that as an individual you can do whatever you want in Eve and play the game in the safe haven of High sec and a NPC corp where aside from the occassional Kamakazi ops that take place in high sec you are very safe. If you want to be part of the game however and influence it you have to join a a corp and do it as a team and by such doing you are immediatly making enemies as you are the competition to other corps trying to do the same thing.
War in Eve is enevitable and the war dec mechanic is not broken. It works quite well. Ya individuals can run and hide, let them, they have that luxary. Corporations and alliances however that intend to stick around better be ready for a fight.

The whole point of war decs is so you can fight in hi sec.
Not really, it just forces people to stay in NPC corps or switch corps, which just destroys community building, damaging the game in the long run.
WRONG. People just use an alt to do the carebear stuff when their main is wardecced.

Your corp are your teamates, your friends the people who you share your goals. Its your commitment in the game. By playing alts, leaving the corp your just abandoning them. Weak status.

You forgot "In order to achieve our goals, we'll do what is necessary to ensure our success" (i.e. declare war)

Hell, sometimes that "griefing" corporation becomes an ally...

TBH, maybe re-vamping the cost mechanic could take a looking at... but otherwise, yeah, it's fine. =========================

Indeed if some players had their way their would be no PvP in this PvP game at all.
But actually .. strictly on a philosphical level I could see Eve being a game about corps rather than alliances. It would certainly eliminate a lot of the drudgery that alliances bring to the table. It certainly would make cutting out a piece of the pie in Eve a lot more attainable by motivated players without the overwhelming real life requirements of trying to manage thousands of players.
I mean in Eve Alliances rarely get defeated in 0.0 through gameplay, they usually fall apart because the people running them burn out.

Too short of a period to motivate a reluctant target.

There are a lot of illogical events in EVE.
Pirate ships (rats) in 1.0 systems makes no sense to me.
The existence of pirates that can shoot your raven without concord magically arriving to WTF own them and yet, if you shoot a wreck not belonging to you .. Kaboom!
I could go on to explain sec rating of systems and quantities of rats spawning but will take too long and I have to make breakfast for my pod spawn Happy Birthday! |

I KNOW!
EVE needs to much more closely follow it's real world analogues! People should only be able to mine after a 2 year waiting period after obtaining mineral rights to an asteroid belt! Missions should "run out" in high sec as you kill all off all of the criminals and all loot should be impounded by CONCORD/the faction police!
And what's up with this jello that we are flying through? There's no air resistance in space, so there should be no maximum speed until you hit relativistic velocities!

Yes. You can also get the police to kill them for you for the right price. Alas, that is not possible in EVE.
Damn, now that's an element of RL I'd like to see introduced.
