Way to go CCP, some interesting features in this article, including but not limited to...
Originally by: IGN Before launching a planetside operation you'll have time to hang out in the command center of your ship and chat with both Dust 514 and EVE players.
Originally by: IGN The soldier you send down to a planet to fight is actually a clone, and if he doesn't make it back you're out all of his equipment.
Oh the tear, MOAR TEARS
Originally by: IGN Once we arrived at our destination we made our way to the terminal controlling the shields on foot, taking out enemies along the way. A few orbital strikes were called in from a buddy playing on PC and proved quite effective.
Oh really! I thought orbital strikes were a distant future feature.
I think my pants just shrank

If they can pull this off with a seamless transition from DUST to EVE it will be a w e s o m e.
*waiting eagerly*
I might buy a PS3 for this (or a PS4), oh - and a monitor...

Edited by: Colt Mitri on 23/08/2011 17:17:29 This is another one of those set up scenarios.
So you have 7 a side and they have pre-worked out tactics, they use a tank or an APC to travel to there first waypoint and then proceed on foot, a bit of stealth and a well placed shot from the EVE player in space and...
No, just no, never going to happen.
So you have 3 on one side and 7 on the other, Everyone charges to the tank as soon as the round starts, one person gets to the tank and takes it straight into the spawn of the enemy, losing the tank and dying himself. The EVE player fires his entire aresnal at the enemy in the first few minutes and then leaves to do things that consist of more than just sitting in space monitoring a chat window waiting for somebody to say "fire now please"
Please...
How do I know this is going to happen? Because it has happened in every other game, and always will, because, yep that's right nobody wants to play tactics and teamwork (1 hour of tense enjoyement) they all want to play run and gun (15 minutes of fun) |

I read that CCP intends to implement a delay effect from the strike. Basically showing laser beams coming down from space where the strike will hit, giving DUST players time to evacuate that particular area. I'll assume that for reviewing purposes they probably stayed in that area just to see what would happen.

CCP can't have more than 1 person interacting in a station in a single game. I am not holding out for Dust to feature smooth interaction in my lifetime. ~~~

Will that matter?
I'm just looking forward to the first post on the forums when someone loses sovereignty or a planet or whatever the stakes are because someone decided it would be fun to TK his entire team this time round just to see what happens.
The very concept behind Dust 514 is flawed, it's open to so many avenues of abuse CCP cannot possibly concieve of them all.
Don't get me wrong, I hope it works, I hope CCP do this, do it right and are remembered forever as pioneers of MMO and FPS history, but then I fire up EVE, and I am thrown back into reality. |

I guess if DUST sov mechanics begin to have an impact on EVE we will see EVE-alliance DUST teams, who are on the more disciplined side (not saying EVE players are non-humorous, but they will know what they fight for).

PS Vita players will likely be able to call in planetary defence for a dollar and destroy someone's Dreadnought LOL EX DEE; while by that time, a pink dreadnought will be available in the NEX store for 36 plex and a manufactured dread, but you can only use it for roll the dice games of interaction with console kiddies that shape the future sovereignty of your space. ~~~

LOL, you must be new to CCP marketing. Here's a Eurogamer hands-on preview of Incarna from 2008, yes, 2008!!!! Read it, compare to what we've got in 2011, and weep:
Quote: When you dock your ship, you can choose to exit your pod to your captain's quarters. Your large, organic pilot's pod leads to a dressing room for choosing costume options, and a generically curvy and antiseptic space-lounge with open-plan kitchen (and a box of "protein delicacies") and animated news screen. An elevator takes you down to the station itself.
Quote: You'll be able to rent a "socket", buy a bar blueprint and insert it. Set your own restrictions on the clientele, hire NPCs to populate the bar (including dancers), even craft dialogue rules for them to create your own little quasi-missions and adventure storylines. Then sit back and watch the beer money roll in.
Quote: Corporation offices will probably be the true hubs of station activity. They'll be split into two areas, a foyer open to everybody where programmed NPCs spout recruitment slogans and give away stuff, and a meeting room for members.
Quote: On the development agenda, but not promised for the first release, is a shared tactical map, fed by information from scouts, that can be used to organise logistics and battle operations on a macro level. On a micro level, there will be mini-games, including a tactical strategy game played out on hexagonal board ("very good if I say so myself", says Olafsson).
My advice to you: a cold shower, and a healthy dose of skepticism.

From what standpoint ? "Fun" ? Because if you would stick similar experience PC players (with mouse+keyboard) on one side and console players (with console controllers) on the other side, while the game does not "cheat" to favour any of the teams, you just KNOW which side will almost always win. Hint : it's not the consoles-only team. _

Every game review site is biased. Simply because if they trash a game they get no more free copies or swag from the company. The best way to work through it is to cut the scoring system in half, and whatever they give a medium score to is the lowest. They never score things lower than medium because that might offend a company.
What's mysterious to me about this particular review is CCP hasn't ever given them anything. So it just might be possible that DUST is good after all.

Through Dust 514's multiplayer skirmishes you can take control of entire planets in EVE: Online. Yes, you can own an entire planet.

Except, in Dust 514 every Dustie has a fit (EXTREMELY similar to EVE) for their vehicles and armour/wepaons loadout.
This personalisation makes it almost completely certain that no one can touch your stuff if you don't want them to.
