Edited by: Jint Hikaru on 28/08/2011 13:23:31 WHEN will we get a multiplayer station environment?
Seriously... when will a player be able to interact with another player while WIS? I keep seeing time and money being spent on designing new shirts and shoes that you are trying to market to the players, but there is no reason to buy them. A player can't walk around in his/her new clothes and mingle with the other players in the game!
Will these 'establishments' mean I can walk through the station and enter another player's shop and interact with him....? or is it as I fear, that we will just be able to call up a listing of what another player has for sale in their 'establishment' from the TV in our solo CQ????
This is a simple question (or 2 questions). You must have a timeline planned for when WIS is actually going to be possible, please remember your commitment to communicate with the community and keep us informed.
For those who don't want to follow the link:

Oh, I just want to say, I'm not looking for a huge flame war here.
I don't particulally mind the Nex store (as long as it stays with vanity only) I think WIS will bring a lot of players to Eve, if its done right.
However I just want to understand where we stand with how long its going to take.
Please fell free to 'X' up if you would like CCP to answer this.... Or feel free to call me names, whatever floats your boat. --- Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum I can tell you that this is one of the moments when we look at what those at CCP will do and less of what they say. |

I can't get my head around why so many folk want WIS?
What further interaction could a player want other than what they have now? Furthermore, I can only see a few selected stations offering some kind of multiplayer station environment. Is this really going to work in Jita or other trade hubs without incredible lag?? Seperate Ambulation server anybody?
EVE, in its former state of a unique SPACESHIP (serious business) Game was far more likely to attract new players in the Space element of the game if the content and development was focused on "what could be done"
I see no motivation for a new player to join EVE, because he/she can "walk in station" and buy a crappy shirt. I'm pretty sure there are tons of games out there that offer the same kind of stuff, thereby EVE loses it's unique status.

See, different people have different motivations. You for example are (obviously) not interested in the character behind your gameplay, I for example am not only interested that much that I have created a character portrait, but also went on a shopping spree in the NEX to go with it...
For me, seeing my character (which is a good step towards my vision from what I was able to model with the old character creator) and changing his attire to fit my current occupation gives as much immersion into the game as I guess fitting starships gives to you. The day I will be able to actually walk around and see more of the insides of the stations will be another huge step (and I am patient about this).
Saying, maybe CCP is on to something. Expanding their already marvellous setting to give insight into more and more aspects of their universe.
Is this different from before? Well yes it is. CCP has a vision. Might this be too big to bite for CCP? Possibly. But if they can pull it off it will be groundbreaking. Will this pull new players? The publicity may. Does this stop people to fly spaceships? No.
Things are changing, and change is always controversial.

CCP don't know. It seems pretty likely, given the slow release of WiS environments so far and the stubbornly stuck door, that CCP really haven't cracked the problems of realising multiple avatars in a single space.
That's probably not surprising given the technical challenges of realising multiple avatars, in high enough visual quality, without server crushing lag or melted PCs. That's why we have CCP stuck - left with just a drip feed of 'NeX clothing items'. We can also assume that EVEs WiS process in intrinsically linked with their WoD title - in short we're not waiting for EVE to advance; but WoD.

Yes they have.... but what they haven't said is what these 'establishments' will actually be. Will they be - walk from your CQ, through the station to a players 'shop' and interact with the player owner and other customers.... or setup a 'shop' with a list of what you have for sale that a player can access through their TV screen from the comfort of their single player CQ like an Ebay store.
I am just wanting to understand what it is we are going to be given this winter and how much longer this whole WIS thing is going to take. --- Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum I can tell you that this is one of the moments when we look at what those at CCP will do and less of what they say. |

Honestly I don't know what they were thinking with this. Aside from Jita and the other trade hubs and the noob systems how many people do you ever see in a station with you? Two? Three? Sometimes up to ten I guess if it is a populated system. I just think there are going to be so many ghost towns it will be kind of weird.
And the stations are so massive I just know that whatever they do is going to feel really incomplete and sad in comparison.

You make a good, valid point sir. I think thats the nub of the issue. Maybe the avatar thing is all the rage at the mo ??? (I'm chronologically gifted so it's not really my bag tbh)
You see I see my ship as my avatar. May sound silly, but given that 90+% of my time I'm in my ship doing stuff, well then I couldn't care too much for my character avatar. People shoot me for the ship im in, not for the shirt im in!
I don't mind if things are changing, but until I see something that adds real value to the whole experience, Well I remain sceptical :)

Will the stations actually be free roam enviroments? or just "load" to a different cq/shop etc?
Would be interesting to see how the server handles 1000 avatars all in the "Jita shopping mall" at once, or how many people you can cram into a CQ :P

Actually, this is a science fiction game WITH spaceships! As such CCP felt they needed to add the other aspects to the game too! Because it have been wanted by players since day 1! For me, this have been wanted since day 1 I joined - which is back in 2005!
The Nice thing about it all: Its optional! You dont have to buy things at Nex store; I dont! And when WiS arrives fully, you dont have to use it! Although I plan to. With other words, its just another choice in the game you can opt to use - or not!
I know I will enjoy Wis!

New player joins EVE, creates avatar and then hits a massive loading screen, followed by lag, an atrocious looking character (nothing like the avatar he created) and his videocard's cooling going into overdrive.
He finds that moving around is unresponsive and is more clunky than Bomberman. He finally manages to look around a bit and realises that the area is very confined and the only spot where the lighting is any decent, to have a good look at his character, is in front of the TV.
First impression of EVE (as that new player hasn't undocked yet); "This game has horrible controls and looks crap, the whole area is underlit and generally looks like some sort of alpha". Then he undocks and finds that the game actually looks awesome and enjoys that part but every time has has to dock again he knows he'll lag for a bit, hits a loading screen and has to go back to that horrible crappy avatar as his videocard is starting to whine again.
Possible outcome is that this new player might think that this whole game is crap like that, I mean the FIRST thing the game shows him is a crap full avatar and clunky controls, what else should he expect? /uninstall

I'm not sure that I'm looking forward to WIS, I'm anticipating lots of low-res toons walking about, scratching their heads and wondering what to do. And more clicks needed to access the market and stuff.
Spaceships are still where the action is in EVE.

I would love to see integration of Dusk into WIS.
Ideally, Dusk combat teams should be allowed to be deployed into station to extract WT's that are happy to hide. (I know this would be unfair if a player is not online so maybe it should only be allowed when a player has been online in the last 24 hours)
I'm not saying they should handed to you on a silver platter but there should be some mechanic that would make them fight.
For example if a player is staying in station constantly during a war dec a team could be deployed that hunts for the player in station, if the team in Dusk is successful in whatever objective that the mechanic requires then a countdown timer should begin, once the timer reaches the end of it's cycle (say 24 hours) the WT should be ejected from the station and be forced to find somewhere else to hide.
The WT could also deploy their own combat team to counter so that it's fair on both sides.
I know it's probably not the best idea in the world but at least I'm 20 minutes closer to finishing work. \o/ win for me :)

Winter Expansion.
Maybe.
If we're lucky.
It'll be a room. The room will have a holo-interface that's basically a quick link to the market window. There will be chairs and a table. There will be no useful or interesting functionality.
It will cost 10k Aurum per month to maintain an establishment.

Actually there is nothing ground breaking about being able to walk a computer avatar around with other people.
We can see it is already negatively impacting the spaceship game. Pods don't warp out in time. Ships aren't getting scrammed, and the ui in general is less responsive.
None of this is good let alone groundbreaking. -Cearain

I agree, but I thought they were talking about having NPC's to fill that void..? NPC's you could hire to fill automated roles while you are offline etc. Well, they have said a lot of things and those may have been before all the additions, subtractions, scrapped ideas, complete overhauls, and years of "just release something!" posts. I guess more waiting is in order.

I'm not talking about Walking in Stations, I'm talking about DUST and the tie in in EVE (or the other way round).
Having two different types of games not only set in the same setting (which has been done), but being realtime connected and influencing each other's environment (actually one environment for both), especially when on different gaming platforms - that's epic in my book.

Well, I don't know why everyone has such trouble with the CQ graphics. My Radeon HD4890 runs it just fine. Runs warm, sure. But I am running it on all max settings. Wonder how well it'll perform with a couple dozen avatars running around...
In any event, I don't really play eve for the WiS content. I doubt I'll buy anything from the NeX. Not at those prices. But if something interesting comes along to make my alt look cuter, I might be persuaded. And that is a very large if.
