1: Shields + DPS Tank 2: Probably armor but shield should work too in a cap transfer gang. 3: Same as wormhole. 4: Armor. ... And I Wander Away |

1. Shield - More DPS tank and higher DPS (lows loaded with gyro's + some tracking enhancers) 2. Shield - Again allows for more DPS and a large quantity of WH runners use a shield fit (although this is entirly dependant on your WH corp, do not recomend using a mach solo in WH) 3. Shield - Again more dps. Can be a BIT on the soft side but they rarely go down (only ever seen one go down during an OTA with a logi DCed). and armor incursion fleets tend to be terrible. 4. Armor - More EHP, Less sig rad & the majority of large PvP fleets run with armor tank (small fleets is mixxed and a shield mach is still very good)

1: Shields + DPS Tank. 2: Could go either way here, but the Machariel's weird armor resists make me want to say shields. 3: Definitely shields. Armor doesn't have enough slots for gyrostabilizers and TEs. 4: Shields. Armor is way too slow. Shield gives superior mobility (nanofibers) with superior DPS (gyrostabilizers) and superior range (tracking enhancers). All of this lets you choose your fights more effectively -- an extremely important trait for a faction battleship.

Edited by: Captain Nares on 30/08/2011 20:55:11 Missions - shield by default, but armor will go too. Armor Mach has longer faloff and same dps as shield one, but weaker tank, ppl above are noobs. PvP - depending on fleet format (mostly shield unless armor gang).

Common AND effective?
1. Burst X-L shield for blitzing 2. Armor for solo, shield for gang, but solo shield works for lower classes and people do it. 3. X-L shield boost with cap transfers as main DPS OR you could armor tank for an armor gang but ofc less dps. 4. Armor w/ slaves or Nano and shield. -

2 Invuln II + DCU II alone gives the Machariel nearly 100K EHP buffer. Sig radius is the same as for the armor fit. Use another Faction BS if you want to armor tank.

I've actually been in some rather good armor groups which have won in Vanguard sites against shield fleets using armor Machs. 4 slot tanks + 3gyros with webs/tracking computers in the mids can work quite well. Granted it's not the most used setup but it works.
