Step beyond trance and go for something like VNV Nation, it's considered futurepop, and it has meaning and depth.

JamesW -> Naw, go for "Starchild" and "Rainbow to the stars" if you really want the pop HH style ;)
(I think I still have my old Dune cd's aruond somewhere)
Atar -> Semantics, some claim VNV Nation is EBM, rather than futurepop. It's quite good even so, but still, then Assemblage 23 might be more accessible. After all, VNV Nation lyrics, no matter how elegant and epic, still comes down to fear, swords and honor.
(Long live Sim Ronan!)
*coughs*
To OP:
Techno's pretty much a moot definition - what genre specifically? (Yes, I know techno's acknowledged as a style of its own, but usually people write techno when they mean either trance, goa, acid or whichever)

Good stuff. I've been to see Umek, Dave Clarke, Sven Vath and Carl Cox Green Velvet played slamming Techno when I saw him as well.

Yaaah...Skuuuuuuutah!
Actually, some of their old stuff was surprisingly good. Rhapsody in E, Cosmos and Raving in Mexico were fairly well produced. And Catchy, too.
The main thing being that, well, once their lead...eh...vocalist...whatever..shuts up, it can get really good, but then, somehow, it's not really Scooter anymore, ya know?
Aw, man, I'm going nostalgic here. Time to break out some Mark'Oh as well. Thanks, you bastard, I'm just been set back 9 years in time. Grr. :p
And re: Dune. I'd still say one of the tracks I liked the most, over time, was actually their cover of Who wants to live forever. There were a couple of very well done trance/breakbeat remixes done. That, and surprisingly, the female little-girl vocals actually did fit some of their more orchestral stuff.
Memories...

Noobs?
In that case, want me to point out you forgot Evil Angel, and Paul Elstakk?
tsk tsk.
Brreze&Styles are ok, I think, but not much more than that.
HH as a genre pretty much died when it became smurfhits. :/
