The layout, font size, column width and default color schema make the new forums almost totally unusable. The background pic is a COMPLETE waste of bandwidth.
What the heck is going on there in Iceland other then massive alcohol and drug ingestion?
Don't know why I would have thought otherwise. Did the same person who was in charge of bug elimination and testing of the latest patch (offline modules) also do the forums?
I really hope that changes are made that will allow handicapped people to use the forums and not isolate us even further. The existing forums are very tolerable, why not allow us to keep the existing format? Not everyone runs in uber high resolution and has 20/20 eyesight.
CCP wonders why they are the laughing stock of the MMO world and are losing customers like rats off a sinking ship. This is one of WAY too many blunders in recent months to even list or count.
To be blunt and concise CCP needs to get their head out of the bankers ass and focus on releasing QUALITY expansions/features that have at least passed a 2nd grade assessment and testing. DON'T let mismanagement and delusions of incompetent employees prevent you from focusing on you roots (The Playerbase).
If your not even going to listen to our suggestions then don't bother insulting us by asking for them.

Perhaps put this in the forums issues thread though, A Dev would probably be interested to hear how the forums look to people with differing eyesight.

I have perfect eyesight but the new forums make me think I'm visually impaired.

The forums are only for a vocal minority and for the devs apparently, no one else was ever really interested in 'new forums', most folks would much rather have parts of the game finished and new ships to fly and shoot at along with new mods etc.

Also they presume things like, "people use cache" hence the large loading time. Most people I know have their cache flushed every time they close their browser.
They have been testing and "asking feedback" for months, but nothing has changed.
Now they aren't even able to launch them.

I have to agree with the OP here; my aging eyesight, mostly due to my being in my sixth decade on this mortal coil, isn't as good as it used to be.
With the current set of forums I am able to set my own font zize and I am happy.
Now, these current forums aren't perfect but all that is needed to make them almost so are:
1. Not to time us out if we're not clicking around for more than five minutes.
2. That our settings are remembered.
That's all.

While not being the most amazing thing ive ever seen i actually don't mind the look of the new forums. I am very pleased to see that there are some decent search features too.
In regards to the background picture Im not a computer scientist but I think those get pulled from a cache after the first time you load it so I dont know how thats a complete waste of bandwidth.
No offence to the handicapped but I think there needs to be a line drawn somewhere on your demands. It would be great if there were options for the vision impaired but throwing a tantrum over it and bad mouthing the company makes you look like a brat. If you cant see the forums your probably not missing out on that much anyway. If you really want to be a part of all the complaining and e-peen measuring invest in some 3rd party software or realise that life isn't fair.
Oh yeah the the offlining modules thing? Welcome to what its been like pulling ships out of a POS hanger since as long as i can remember.

Yea you're right, we should exclude a part of our player base by not including options in the new forums. Options which seem standard in many forums these days, but I guess the coding would be way too difficult.

I'm visualy impaired as will, i have stygma (sp?) in my eyes causing my focus to be stretched on the horizontal plain, and to be really honest, i don't find the new forums any less usable than the old ones, infact i can see them slightly clearer than these.
I have always hated these forums because the font is so small and the contrast between the white text and the very light grey background makes it hard to see.
With the new forums the background is slightly darker and the font slightly larger which makes it much easier for me to read.
For me the only thing they could improve is the size of the font, just make it a little larger, and maybe use a white font instead of the off-white they're using now.
To be honest i don't believe you when you say you have bad vision and it's hard for you to read, i think you just don't like the idea of new forums and want to kick up a fuss.
As to the background picture, 1) most browsers would have cached that the first time you loaded so it's not using hardly any bandwidth, a picture signature would use as much, 2) I don't notice backgrounds after a while, on my own forum i tend to change the forum once a month because after a while of seeing the same thing it kinds of "dissapears" for me, so i'm not really bothered about the background.

Don't worry. You'll be able to buy a new colour scheme for the forums in the NeX for only 5999 AUR/month.
If you don't like it then I can always send you a print-out of the door for you to stick on your screen.

Oh, do consider one thing; you won't have 20/20 vision for ever. I had great eyesight until about nine months ago and like everyone else my age they started to deteriorate. So unless you are planning to expire just before your fiftieth then you should expect this to happen to you too.

Personally I dont have perfect vision and sometimes colours all look the same to me. I dont demand and insult the company of games that refuse to cater to this. I fail to see how zooming in your browser or using third party magnifaction software is too hard.

In part because it shouldn't be needed ù it's trivial to make those things user settings so they can adjust things according to their needs. Hell, even these crummy old forums support that (then again, these forums support a lot of things that the new ones don't).
In addition, because the new forums are so poorly designed that they don't really respond well to outside changes. They're not dynamic enough to simply allow for a size increase, and zooming in through the use of magnification has a tendency to just make things either blurry or pixellated (neither of which really improves the readability).
It's not that it's too hard ù it's that it's completely unnecessary and shouldn't be needed, and that it's a result of CCP once again reducing functionality in favour of bling.

only good thing on new forum is that cookies are working.
never worked on these one, always had to relog every 15mn...
well on the other hand, as news forums are linked to eve gate, if you want to check mails or so on another char, you'll lose your forums char on the way...
