ok so im retuning to the game after an extended leave and looking to get back to lvl 4 missions.
my toon can currently has t2 medium auto cannons, large guns lvl4, and all tank/support skills lvl 3-4, along with BC and cruiser 4, so realisticly 3 days training and im in a maelstrom with decent skills.
well heres my questions i guess.. 1, can a moderatly skilled cyclone do lvl 4s(asking cause it has the tank bonus)
2, i was looking at skiping the t1 battleships and going for a t3 (the loki)would this be as or more effective than flying a standard mission fit 800mm auto mael?
3, as for skill.. tank b4 gank would be the right philosophy for missions yes?
i really apreciate any advise you all can give me, thanks,

Like I was, you are trying to avoid skilling up shields.....My advice is skill up shields and get a Mael. Then maybe a Mach.
In my experience, gank before tank in level 4s.

No. A Loki is not competitive with a BS in L4s because it cannot project damage worth a damn. Speed will only take you so far. That's not to say a Loki can't do L4s; it can. But it can't compete for completion times in most cases.

1. No. 2. You shouldn't do it, Loki's quite bad for L4 missions, you're alot better off doing it in a Maelstrom with T1 guns. 3. No, if you fit your Maelstrom properly you'll rarely have to tank anything.

1. Nope - Cyclone isn't a good general ship for lvl4's as it suffers from the same damage projection problems as the Loki. And even with the tank bonus, it would have problems with high damage/em damage missions.
2. See above posts
3. Generally gank before tank, but this depends on the mission, your skills, and how you fly. The objective is to maximize gank while having enough tank to avoid warping out or getting blown up. The nice thing about shield tanks is that you don't have to give up that much gank for a good tank because the tanking mods go in the mids.

Vargur is wonderful. Selectable damage types means it can mission against just about anything (but weak sensor strength makes for problems against Guristas). Tracking disruptors aren't a huge problem as NPC tracking disruption does nothing to falloff, which is where the Varg always operates anyhow. Sensor damps are a pain no matter what. Bring drones and just expect Serpentis Blockade to take awhile.
