Well if it was truly a 'cold, dark and harsh world' on the forums then a community dude could come along and ban you permanently for no reason. That would be the epitome of harsh 
Thankfully, we adhere to guidelines and the first of those guidelines are that this is a teen rated forum and the language used should reflect that.

Ok Gargant, you've handled me beautifully, seriously though, I promise next time to fill out the form.
Trouble is the lock is probably justified under the rules somehow, almost any thread can be locked for something.
My concern is the fervor & regularity & bloody minded pettiness I encounter almost everytime I come here. Good discussions ended for minor infractions, I suggest this is not good for the forums or the community & you guys are ultimately going to have to choose, good active forums with lively debate & discussion & it's run on effects with the wider EvE community or staid, bland, dull topics that don't attract any heated discussion or general emotion, thought, wit, or anything very interesting beyond the day to day drudgery of wine threads or blatant nepotism.
I'm sure this has all been said before & I'm doubly sure I'm not telling you guys something you don't already know. But I'm glad I said it again & somebody listened.

All this may be true in your case. But T40 is running wild on the forums inspiring threads like this one. Many of us so enrage anything can set us off at this point. Also nothing wrong with armchair fascists.

Why isn't the "report post" flag an appropriate way to report incidents of poor moderation (or at least the reader's perception of poor moderation)? Even in locked threads, the "report post" flag is still active. And it seems substantially easier on the person reporting. Petitions are widely (*WIDELY*) believed to be ineffective black holes into which earnest players send their pleas and which CCP lackadaisically reviews ("Sorry, but it's Summertime and everyone is on vacation and oh gosh we couldn't foresee such a thing as a season...") or worse, outright discards with abandon.

Reporting posts here in the forums themselves is a very good practice and you should absolutely keep doing that. However, a petition is a two way conversation with an employee of CCP. We don't necessarily respond to reports we receive here on the forums (while we do of course investigate every reported post) but you will always receive a reply. We never discard a received petition, ever.

Sorry; by "discard" I meant "ignore until the robot automatically closes the petition after 14 days of inactivity." But this is perhaps not the appropriate thread to point out the tricks of CCP's petition crew.
So, we should all report posts from ISD when we believe the ISD action is unwarranted.

A neighbour of mine used to be LibDem councillor and she's told me of their very high levels of uselessness a few times now, especially after she lost her seat.
