I've just been comparing the stats of both the 150mm Prototype Gauss Gun, and the 150mm Railgun II, and the Gauss seems to be better. Is this right, or am I missing something?

They should be about the same. The difference is that the T2 gun will eventually use T2 ammo (or T1) and that will do more damage. I also think, but am not sure (please correct me if i'm wrong) that the specialization skill affects t2 guns only which should aslo boost your damage with the T2 gun.
The Proto should have less requirements as far as grid/cpu as well as skills. So if you are strapped for grid/CPU go with the proto.

The stats between the best named Gun and the T2 Version are indeed the same. The only diffrence is that T2's can be build and can use T2 ammo once its released. ---------------------------

And T2 guns are in general cheaper (check the top guns, especially). -- The best description of alliances, ever:

Judging by the description on the specialization skill, I thought that the bonus applies to ALL small hybrids (in this case). Dev Time????

omfg quick get the magic dev wand and summon a fairy. Dunno, i'm sure the good folks out there with a pair of eyes can easily tell you whether or not their gunnery specialization skills work on tech1 gear too.

So in effect, the skillbook guide is a tad misleading, and with the proper skills, T2 owns you all, yeh?

Tech 2 guns have longer optimal range & higher damage than std & named tech 1.
The only disadvantage is it uses slightly higher CPU and Grid than std guns.
But if you improve your skills on CPU and Grid handling, nothing can stop u from using all T2 weapons in a ship.
Happy shooting.
