For how long did CCP work on EVE ?
-How many players can Tranq handle max ? and what if more peeps start playing the game actively ? New server or tranq made better ?

Tranq made better, actually not sure on your first question.
Currently Tranq is handleing loads of up to 12000+ peak, im not sure what the server can handle, but I know they have improved their cluster more than once over the games time to take account of a larger playerbase.

The Question isn't what can the server handle its what can the nodes handle.
From experience anything past 150 pilots in one system and your lagged to hell and back. Anyone doubting my reasoning is welcome to come to Rens on a weekend.
The systems simply cannot handle that many pilot and amount of game physics. Fleet wars are the same more lag than skill.
I dont think CCP care about it tbh however odd that sounds seeing as they try to force bigger battles.(Alliance war structure in Exodus).
So we are stuck with not bothering with Fleet battles and not being able to function if there are more than a few dozen pilots in space. Screw that i want a proper game.
As for how long CCP worked on EvE, about 3 years so far but they spent the last 2years firefighting problems rather than fixing them. Half of CCP are there to fix the current bugs but don't seem to know how the other half are there to add more bugs to the game. The latter like to call themselves content team.
Please don't see this as a flame or a *****. I still play EvE as it is but expect absolutely nothing from CCP. If it works well its a first if not . I just don't use it. Simple really.

Actually, they've been working on EVE since 1997, I don't remember the full story, but the idea came even earlier.
In beta the plan was to have about 100k subscribers, they based that on the fact that only 1/4 is online during peak hours. So the EVE servers, should be able to take 25k people, though it probably has to be built out and all that technical stuff I don't get, before that happens. Of course, this is old information, so it might have changed.

Having all those 150 players have their own agent mission instances and all fighting is I guess what really kills the node.
Also for some insane reason some places are way laggier then others. You can fight with twice the numbers in Fountain and still have less lag then in FIX space.

part of the probles is the actual connections they have from what I recall.
I have clusters of SQL servers, load balanced, and 200k users each hour/day, but it uses 3 oc3 lines for the outside world to connect. Aside from the pesky hardware issues, the system has no lag. Click, results delivered. (AR and AP .net applications) Eve has the worry of gfx on the client, but the gfx do not use the connection (i would hope).
perhaps they can reduce the number of bytes needed, by replacing bytes with bit position in bytes sent?
anything to help reduce the data flow to its basics would help with lag. If it is a matter of server side calculations...one answer is, more servers in the cluster.
