How many regularly lose ships to situations outside their control?
Situations outside their control include, but are not limited to,CTDs,lag, freezes, mission suddenly spawns a 6 million bounty BS right on you, etc, etc.
Situations IN your control include, but are not limited to,getting ganked at a gate, getting podded by someone with a better ship, shooting a station in 1.0 space, you get the idea.

Never lost a ship partly because I dont PvP and partly because of my tanking method and I only do level 3 missions or low level complex raids. I also use lots of drone so when I CTD I come back to find half or all the rats are dead. I guess CTD's in level 4 missions are another story and something to worry about.
My brother was not so lucky he was coming out of warp in a hauler and someone hit him with 6 to 8 smart bombs in that stage where the ships decelerate but you cannot active modules or move, seconds later he was podded.

Tbh BS spawns on top of your ass are very much something you control. You need to not be there if you don't want the risk of that.
Aside from that, never lost a ship to pure lag before, never to a bug, never to ctd, except for one abandoned velator filled with named gear that decided to move off on its own about a year and a half ago. It got moved back fairly simply and fairly speedy. _______________________________________________

i had only lost 3 BS until a month ago so yes some bad things have happened.
normally its my own fault. i should have just stayed in my safe spot or warped sooner.at the end of the day if i get ganked in pvp then fairplay!
wat does cheese me off is when there is something i could have done and i didnt. i feel like i have stolen something from myself :(
i think the worst is being jammed and scrambled. you get forced to watch your gorgeous 150 mill + BS get pecked to death. soul braking... www.IntimidatorX.com |

Does stupidity count as something out of your control? I accidentily warped into HED-GP the other day when I was testing instas and wasn't paying attention. I had just about enough time to laugh nervously and try to make myself look small before my Blackbird was smeared across the gate.
Apart from that? No. Well, lost a Condor to lag when I was (even more of a) newb. But now I never let myself be in a situation where I know that can kill me. ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

I've lost plenty of ships due to my own stupidity. Best one was when I fell asleep leaving my Badger mk II mining in a 0.7 system. The problem is, if you do lose ships (or worse, your mods) due to problems outside of your control (lag, display errors etc. etc.), don't bother petitioning them. You have - no chance - of a reimbursement. 100% chance of the "no serverside problems" reply.

It used to be alot, but this was during the time of JIP's and 10-ship-fleet-lagging-the-whole-universe.
The game is a whole lot more stable today, so I'd say none since Castor!

yes i find that very amsuing that a bug CREATED by CCP somehow doesnt mean its there fault when that bug wastes you.
i had a raven, one day flying along minding my own business and i get disconnected.....
i log back on to find im in a pod... i swear i touched cloth. i had no kill mail only a insurance mail. a WEEK later i get my raven back.
i cant say i am impressed even mearly satisfied by the customer service ccp provides. www.IntimidatorX.com |

Err 6 million BSes arent supposed to spawn in a mission.I meant that to say when the mission spawn somethings it shouldnt, like what happened a while back.
And no,getting scrambled and webbed isnt something you cant control.Im specifically referring to issues like lag.

Couple of times to really bad lag.
Had 50+ CA fleet warp in and everything just slowed down to what seemed like 0.000001 fps. Tried to warp out but couldn't activate anything.
Another time was in a belt againest NPC's, again extream lag.
Rest of the time its been my own stupid thought , generally being too tired and not thinking through clearly what I am doing.

dont play eve on coke!!!
you will end up shotting someone for a bounty and spend the rest of your days being chased and camped across eve by 300 people. not good on a come down :(
the worst lag i have ecountered is in a lvl 5 complex. i would HATE to see a level 10's FPS... www.IntimidatorX.com |

Once.
Lost my apoc when a group of 5 Serpentis Thoraxes decided to spawn on me, at the same time freezing my screen. Had to relog, when I came back I was just in time to see the apocalypse explode.
The only time I got podded was my own mistake. Autopilot makes more victims then tachyons :\

Edited by: Iratus Caelestis on 06/03/2005 11:56:32 Lost a couple of Deimos to some 'choice' abends from the Eve servers.
First time all my modules got stuck and were flashing red the entire time, I died.
Second Time I was in a group outnumbered 2-1 and was flying around merrily pounding the crap out of their BS's and got the age old 'catch up bug' with the damage and all of a sudden I went from full shields to 25% armour in 1 second which seeing as I had about 2500 armour and wasn't scrambled I was really happy about.

I was blown up 2 days ago by some deadspace NPC 22 AU away from me while at a planet i warped to. Id killed the frigs and was trying to kill 1 of 3 BS when common sense took over at 40% shield and 40% cap and i warped out. Only probelm is not everything seemed to think i had warped out. They who shout the loudest normally have the least to say. |

lost 3 ships to PvP. None to PvE. the PvP ones are a bit questionable as for tactics used like people hiding in complexes to gank people who warp in. But fair game i guess :)

Every time i lose a ship i get a message saying your ship is out of control.
I get the occasional freeze when i'm out npc'ing, get a dual bs spawn and then see that i cant shoot (lights are on but dont see no torps coming out), i found out that if you always have a system set on your ap, theres a good chance you'll get out alive. =============================================

i've lost:
1. A badger MK2 - first ship I lost.. someone in a raven was PvPing someone near a station, I got in the crossfire (oops) and his torps killed me. He was a real ass about it too "YOU DID IT ON PURPOSE. IM PETITIONING YOU TO BE BANNED". I was sitting outside the station in Yulai, at the point where you undock and I was afk. He thinks I did it on purpose. He lost his BS, but I still want my revenge, he'll lose another BS next time I meet up with him :P. I didn't get reimbursed, but I guess this is fair play (I was a newb at the time, so I petitioned)
2. A scorpion - Servers went down and I lost my ship. They said it was my fault because I should know the server go down when they do, ok, whatever.. I was just being stupid, logged in 5mins before the server went down, went to fight some rats, server went down, came back on and I was dead.
3. Ferox - Lag in a complex. I was reimbursed.
4. Cormorant - lag in a complex, I was reimbursed.
5. Coercer - lag in a complex, I didn't even bother asking for reimbursment.. I was so mad I sent in a reimbursement petition just to cuss them out :P They didn't reply.. whatever, 1.2m isk ship is no big deal. It was the principle of the whole thing.
All the complex ships were within a 2 day period, so it really made me mad.
thats it. History of ALL the ships I lost that I feel wasn't my fault. ________

4 BS so far to 2x Cap Bug 1x Armor Bug 1x hardeners deactivating during mining in 0.0 (sanshas shooting me)
Lag is a big problem but most times i could escape befor getting killed. CTD or getting stuck during jumps got me killed a few times too (by npcs and ppl).
May you live in interresting times. |

Last ship I lost to a bug was a cheetah. I was cloaked (or at least the client and my screen told me I was cloaked) but I really wasnt. Of course my cheetah didnt last long whent the fleet I thought i was hidden from blasted the poor ship to smithereens. That was last year in september iirc.
Before that talking history, I lost a scorpion to the massive criminal flag lag during that insane time when criminal flagging was brought in and empire wars ground to a halt. That wasnt replaced either.
Before that I lost many ships to my missiles not hitting their intended targets when missiles, expecially torps were dangerous toys to play with.

Well, all of you that have gotten reimbursed, I'd like to know what you did and who you bribed. I was travelling to empire w/ a full load of minerals in a catalyst...I don't remember how much mega it was but I do remember it was 20.85k of zyd. Total value was about 100+ million. I ran across a hostile in a inty who began trailing me, but my instas are good so no worries. Plus, WCS 4tehw1n (if you're travelling, travel - if you're there to fight, fight). Enter D4KU-5, him and a buddy are camping the exit gate. One crow and one kestrel. No big deal really. I warp to a SS close to the gate, which is off plane to avoid any possible warp bubble problems. Select insta, ship just begins to enter warp, I CTD. Log back in in my pod of course. Even the guys who killed me agreed that I had crashed and said I should use the local chat log in a petition.
However, not only did I not get the ship back, I didn't get the minerals back, I didn't even get my petition answered - they totally ignored it. ****ed me off so bad I didn't play for several days. Or perhaps they still haven't gotten to it now 2 months later.
