I was thinking about Bruce Almighty and the ridiculous number of prayers Bruce got from people wanting to "win the lottery" and it got me back to thinking about mining and how it might equate to this scene of the movie.
In Bruce Almighty, Bruce makes the mistake of answering all of a large block prayers with a "yes." This meant that everybody in New York won the state lottery, and the payout for this miracle was only $17 apiece, or likely only a little less than what each winner spent on tickets. I couldn't help but think of the recent mining buff, where CCP answered all miners' prayers with a resounding, "YES!"
Sure, the initial payout looked big, but as more and more "winners" begin claiming their "prize" (the right to mine in high-sec unmolested in a superbuffed Mackinaw with a built-in tank and jet-can), prices (payouts) for the suddenly over-abundant materials continue to fall through the floor. That's because there's only so much prize money to be had, but now all the miners are splitting ever smaller shares of that payout. Not unironically, the more they mine the more they exacerbate this situation.
We now have a scenario in Eve Online where if you buy a Mackinaw and pilot it in 0.7 space you are basically guaranteed a winning stake in the mining lottery, small though it may be.
Mark God's (Morgan Freeman's) words from the end of the film: Parting your soup is not a miracle Bruce, it's a magic trick. A single mom who's working two jobs, and still finds time to take her son to soccer practice, that's a miracle. A teenager who says "no" to drugs and "yes" to an education, that's a miracle. People want me to do everything for them. What they don't realize is *they* have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? Be the miracle.
In Eve a miracle is a miner moving to low or null to operate. In Eve a miracle is an industry corp who says "no" to safety and "yes" to profit. That's a miracle. Miners wanted CCP to do everything for them. And it was so.
Enjoy the $17 lottery payout! He who trolls trolls best when he who is trolled trolls the troller. -Darth Gustav's Axiom |

Enjoy the $17 lottery payout!
In your analogy, the end result of the miracle miner who moves to null, is a payout of $14 for the same time spent mining as the high sec miner who made $17. Heck, I could achieve that miracle much faster, just have all the miners give me 20% of their profits. Now that is the true meaning of "When Everybody Wins". |

They should maybe adapt and diversifying their portfolio. If enough people diversify their portfolios all the ores and ices will be mined more or less evenly due to the law of averages.
So no.

Okay. We get it. ______s and gankers want more control against the most AFK of resource acquisition in high-sec.
Mining is kind of a sub-profession. Mining is still boring.
Miners don't move to low/null. Industrialists do. The guys that actually build crap with the minerals they mine for their friends and corp mates to live out there while being protected by them.
Oh, and figure out a way to deal with Retrievers too. They'll start flying a lot of those if Mackinaws got nerfed. |

So is your problem with mining in general? Do you think it should not exist?
Or are you a miner yourself and just want more profits for yourself?

You don't want everyone to "win" in Eve, just you? 1) Absolutely not. I think miners are critical to Eve in more limited quantities.
2) I used to mine 5-6 years ago. In a Vexor. For small durations. I hated it.
3) Absolutely not. I want people to win at Eve because they're good at the game, not because CCP prints winning tickets called "Mackinaw." It's healthy for the game when people can win or lose. Non-miners should rejoice. If miners make the problem, miners suffer for it. Either way, it's THEIR problem.
For mine, if my lottery ticket costs me 10 and I win 17, I'm in front. I will keep doing it until either 1) Ticket prices go up 2) Payout goes down
Then I'll just stop buying lottery tickets and place bets on Zagdul not wearing a dress for a week. Profit.

Gank more Macks? Bring the CFC into highsec and mount another campaign? Buy all the minerals on the market and sell in batches? Play another game? Stop whining and actually blow more stuff up to keep prices higher?
Nope. Easy solution. Nerf mining.

Oh wait, mineral prices for hisec ores went up before the patch... I was making MORE mining in hisec 6 months, and null/wspace ore is worth considerably less now.
Oh yes the patch is so akin to winning the lottery.

Actually this economic theorising to provide justifcation for any change is extraordinary.
The other day I had the audacity to say that all production platforms in 0.0 (POS's) should be able to be one-shotted by a small determined group by removing timers.
I made the claim as a NON-sov holder who does not own a production tower in 0.0.
The first argument AGAINST the idea - that'll drive prices up.
So here we are now, non-miners, many part of sov-holding empires, claiming that Mackinaws, the production platform of the miner, should be blown up to keep prices high.
So which is it?

But Darth.
You CAN still gank Mackinaws. CCP did NOT make them invulnerable.
YOU have determined that YOU cannot make a profit from it.
And if I were to complain I cannot make a profit in any aspect of Eve, I'd be told in no uncertain terms to DO SOMETHING ELSE by 99.99% of EveO.
So Darth. The MIRACLE is - DO SOMETHING ELSE.

I am not that strawman. Somebody else said those things. Any quotes from me will be consistent.
I don't care what somebody else said about prices to you about your ridiculous proposal (or lack thereof).
I want to see prices moderate, not high or low.
Especially not artificially low by an "I win!" mining ship.
You cannot possibly turn this around on me. What I want is a healthy game. In-game, if that means moderately higher prices, so be it.

If this is such an issue, why are mineral prices staying high? Most ores are staying over 200 ISK per cubic meter, topped by Mercoxit and Arkonor, null sec ores.
Unless you mean ice. But given the amount of effort needed to mine ice, I think the profit is about right. POS owners sure like the lower price. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

How about Veldspar and Scordite? In otherwords, Tritanium and Pyerite. Or whatever.
That null ores are higher is still a function of the drone nerfs and the small amount of null miners.
What's ice and trit doing?
