I was wondering if this idea would work. If you loaded out a ship with smart bombs and a cloaking device could you sneak up on some one and then decloak start the smart bomb engine. I wondering if the cloaking stop you from fire wep for 30 sec or just targeting some one. Never know could be.

After de-cloaking you cannot use any offensive modules till after the 30 seconds (or lower with better cloaking devices and skills) is up. You can test this anytime you want, just warp to a planet, cloak, de-cloak, then try to activate smartbombs . . .

no no... you can't TARGET after you decloak...
http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/shipequipment/electronicsandsensorupgrades/cloakingdevices/11578.asp
sensor recalibration time 10000
*-That's for targeting after you re-cloak
reactivation delay 30 sec
*-That's for reactivation of the CLOAKING device.
I'm pretty sure smartbombs would work, I've used ecm burst before and that's offensive and it didn't take thirty seconds. Anyway, that's a pretty good idea, but remember if you get targeted you can't re-cloak, and you'd also uncloak (wether you like it or not) 2k from said ship. This puts you just inside a small smartbomb's range but those suckers only do 70 damage and you can only fit two of em on a covert ops frig. Basically the only thing it's useful for is pod killing. and If you do it you'll only be able to fit those and your covert ops cloak plus maybe some warp core stabs (reccomended since you won't be able to run and cloak after they target you)
It might work, but I can't see an immediate use for it.

Oh yeah if you do it on any other ship you wouldn't be able to 'sneak up' per say. Like a BS, cause you can't warp cloaked. But it'd be a really good way to completely screw a camp. Just cloak when you get in and the frigs'll come looking for your bs, by the time they get close enough to de-cloak you they'll be WELL within range for a smart bomb or 5 and then just lay em to waste. Then your buddies jump in interceptors and bs and tackle/destroy the others. |

öAfter de-cloaking you cannot use any offensive modules till after the 30 seconds (or lower with better cloaking devices and skills) is up.ö That does not sound right I use a Auto Target system to lock in 5 seconds then start shooting and launch drones. I donÆt recall ever having to wait an extra 25seconds after target lock before I could fire.

Edited by: Coolgamer on 10/03/2005 18:07:50 You cannot use smartbombs immediately after decloaking. You have to wait for the sensor recalibration time. I tested it, I know.

"You cannot use smartbombs immediately after decloaking. You have to wait for the sensor recalibration time. I tested it, I know." Did you try with the Auto Targeting system? It seems strange you can use all weapon apart from Smart bombs. _________________________________________________ Gallente defensive innovation comes from unexpected source. |

O I get it the auto targeting system is a passive system auto matic targeting when activated take 4.5 sec for the II one and add 4 to your max targets so you can fire your weps at the target at least the ones that need a target

Seems like I recall when the cloaks first came out that some pirates went around in apocs fitted with a cloaks and 7 large smartbombs. They would sneek up on miners and decloak and BOOM! In a short time CCP gimped the cloaks so that everyone decloaked within 15km of another ship until they finally came up with the weapon activation delay. Then they reduced the distace back down to decloak to 2km. It is not a new idea.

FoF only target ships that are hostile to you, so just declocking and trying to fire wouldn't work, if some1 started to shoot at you it might tho... :)

I'm not sure if the signature resolution reduction is on the guns (ensuring crappy hits) or on the ship (ensuring long locktimes).
If its just on turrets a raven or scorp can easily run around cloaked with an autotargeter, get within ten KM, hit the AT to trip out of cloak and fire as soon as locked.
If its not on turrets I think we just found a way to make Blasterthrons more usefull... Although I'm not sure if they could do enough damage with just six blasters against an unsuspecting target.

Out of curiosity would the FoF missles target says members of a corp you are at war with? wouldn't they be considered hostile enough for it? (I honestly have never used FoF as last time I played they where horribly bugged)

Well I did say it depends on skills and the actual cloaking module. If you have a faction/commander one then it will be faster, plus training the Cloaking skill to lvl5 helps too I believe. I could be wrong, just going off of what was talked about cloaking when it was introduced. Of course I only spam the forums from work and hardly from home where I can actually check in-game, hehe. If they did change the fact that offensive modules can be activated right away after de-claoking then I say that is not right. I will try and test it more when I can get in my ships that have cloaking devices fitted.

I used a basic T2 cloaking module on my Battleship with the lowest skills possible to fit it. _________________________________________________ Gallente defensive innovation comes from unexpected source. |

hostile means hostile act, eg. ew or fire offensive weapon at you.
you wouldn't be able to fire anyting unless someone throw you the first punch.

Edited by: Pottsey on 12/03/2005 08:30:10 ôyay loop holes Cpp don't read or the giant nerf bat of doom will wack poor little auto targets modsô Why do so many people think itÆs a loop hole? Your sacrificing a high slot to fit in extra targeting computers to target faster. If you cannot target faster with a Auto Target computer there isnÆt exactly much point in the module. I always though the main point of the module was to target in 5 seconds. In totel your sacrificing 2 high slots for this setup which I think is fair for the benfit.
ôyou wouldn't be able to fire anyting unless someone throw you the first punch.ö If you are at war with someone are they not classed as hostile targets even if they donÆt fire?

They should be classed as hostile, yes. I dont know if they are. i wish auto targetters would target non hostile ships too.

I was just finishing up a level 4 mission and had to switch to my single reload worth of FoF's when I ran out of torps on the final battleship. Once the last battleship died, I was suprised to see that my launchers were still firing - apparently, some of the static world objects such as the Guristas Lookout Tower and the like were listed as hostile even though they had never fired at me and had not locked (for that matter, they were structures - they were incapable of locking at all).
This means that any target that is considered naturally hostile will be considered valid even if they haven't fired upon you. Linking this to what someone else just said, I believe this means you can use FoFs if there is a player nearby who is a member of a corporation that has officially declared war against your corp. I have not tested it, but given my recent experience, I would think my guess is correct. As for whether or not it will target people whom you have set at massively negative standing, I've no clue. But apparently FoFs *do* fire upon any target considered naturally hostile, and that would almost HAVE to include people you're at war with.
P.S. This rambling post has been brought to you by the fact that the server is down for daily maintenance and the fact that I should've gone to sleep a few hours ago.
