I was taking a load of goods (about 1.8 bil worth... my entire 'fortune') for sale in Esoteria (as I recall) using my trusty stabbed out prototype cloaked badger mkII (it was the only hauler I could fly at the time) and plotted out an elaborate 60+ jump route to get there from Empire thinking I would never see more than one or two in a system along that route at a time. I even brought along a shuttle scout. After hours of careful navigation I was trapped in a series of 2 gate systems by some pirates that were very careful about hiding their presence. I punched through the trap and thought I had it made... but 2 jumps from my station they finally caught and podded me. So close... and so painful at the time I thought I would never recover (I was too greedy to only fly what I could afford to loose).
...but I did.
Big time.

Prior to Need For Speed, warped into a lvl IV mission in a Rokh, was in a pod before I loaded onto the grid
It happened 5 times before I gave up an went back to lvl IIIs. I petitioned an got em all back but still
Yeah, gotta say, I can see the point of how missioning risk vs reward is skewed when thats the most money Ive ever lost in a mission "If the unfaithful would rage-quit, let them do so. And let not the gates of New Eden strike them 'pon the ass ere they leave." Quoth the Hillmar |

An Osprey. I kid you not.
Picture the scene. It was 2003, fresh faced and enjoying a new MMO I began to mine in a Bantam. I scraped and saved with miner II's being well out of budget it was miner I's and hard graft.
I remember buying that Osprey (Before any mining bonuses) feeling all hot damn! Going to go kill me some rats, first low sec belt I went into and the NPC spawn killed me. I got stuck on a roid.
That loss crippled me, so much hard work, and of course, I'd spent every penny I had on it. All I had left was my Badger (made money hauling for other miners, no barges yadda yadda) and my Bantam.
Nearly quit if it wasn't for a group of real life friends starting eve.
Wish I still had kept that character training for all those years, but his long retired :p |

10 billion isk to a "trading partner" who took the money and ran 4 billion isk to curzon dax A large research POS 2j from Jita (you have no idea how many mercs these things attract) podded with +5s by a smartbomb camper, and I think I was carrying datacores as well.
My worst loss though, would have to be losing everything I had (700m) to a scam IPO 5 years ago. 700m back then was probably like 5B or so now, so it was a big deal to a noob like me.
Actually, my worst loss might be even earlier, when I was about 2 months into the game. I had recently made a ton of isk (75m, lol) selling snowballs, and I finally had enough isk to give 0.0 a try. I fitted out a brand new Wolf with some T2 parts (which were 10x more expensive back then), bought ammo BPOs and minerals, mapped out my path into syndicate, and took off. I immediately ran into Tiller, who proceeded to kill my badger II filled with my supplies. I had instas and warp core stabs, but tiller locked and killed me while aligning, which I really didn't know was possible at the time. It was christmas eve, and the final words he said before killing me were "merry christmas". That one hurt |

Drake and Raven.
My first Drake I was with some corp mates helping with World's Collide. My first time seeing that particular mission, I figured what the heck let's see how well my tank holds on the second room. Don't think it lasted even 10 seconds.
Didn't care though because I'd already bought my first Raven that I fitted up and started flying around.
My first Raven I had just started trying an active tank and saw a mission called "Enemies Abound." Was kind of wary of it after checking Eve Survival, but I figured what the heck. Went ok for a little bit, and then the enemies started pouring in and I aligned to warp out. My ship aligned, I clicked warp, and oh geez, that lil frigate's scramming me. Still some shield left and some cap to run my booster, so I figure I'll be fine. But the drones aren't killing that frigate very quickly, even after I promise to abandon them the second the frig dies, and even perma running my booster can't outdo the incoming DPS. Hurry up drones, come on you can do it! But no, I died when the frig was in structure.
Didn't care though because I'd already bought my second Drake that I fitted up and started flying around. (Found it actually worked pretty well for L4s, although it couldn't run them very quickly.)
So yeah, neither of my "big" losses were really all that significant to me. I generally try to make sure I have enough ISK for a cushion before I buy a new ship. Still pretty new though, so plenty of time to get bitten in the ass. |

Mine's a two parter, but rather related to one another. This first one was the Osprey that I used to mine, back when I first started playing and had aspirations of being an industrialist. Had it all tricked out and ready to go mining. I decided to move shop, and set autopilot to my new destination, not noticing that it took me through two low sec systems. Lost ship and pod, popping my cherry. Being three months old, that hurt and probably put me on my current path.
The second incident involved moving pretty much everything I had 6 jumps, all hi-sec. One of the systems was a .5, and I got jumped in my Badger II. Had ECM fitted, went to activate it, and the warning window popped up, the one I had previously marked to never show again much earlier in my career. Banging on the yes, please activate my GD f'n mods button, nothing happens and I lose pretty much everything. The two things that hurt about that were the facts that 1) I was hauling things I had since I started playing, and 2) since battleclinic doesn't differentiate between BPOs and BPCs as far as value, my Isk numbers are all borked to hell there now too. I think the sentimental loss is much worse though, and actually served to sever some of the feeling I have towards Eve. Make CQ and WiS an option, not a must.-á I don't play EvE for the toon spinning. |

Outside of my account, I think my biggest loss in EVE was the loss of nerve that stopped me from deploying my Nidhoggur in combat. Now that fat rusty ************ just sits in Intaki being a 1 billion ISK lump of nothing useful. The last time we used it for anything worthwhile was when we used it to quickly transport all our stuff back home after we hastily evacuated everything in our wormhole into Amarr space. So yeah, the most use my carrier has been in the last year was as a glorified hauler with a ship maintenance bay and a jumpdrive.
In terms of actual ships, I tend to seriously dislike losing battleships. Andreus Anthony LeHane Ixiris CEO, Mixed Metaphor Media Consultant, Voyeur Studios |

I managed to lose two Carriers in two days. One was to drunkenly insisting I could tank a friends doomsday. In my defense, I would have, if I had picked the right damage type ("Wait...Erebus DD is Thermal?!"). |

One of my losses was in my first week of playing EvE. I was just chilling in my tormentor mining some rocks, drinking some beer while waiting for my can to get full. After all was done I warped to station to pick op my brand new sigil so I could haul my ore back. Unfortunately a SB and a 'Cane flipped my can when I warped back in. At the time I didn't know anything about aggression and stuff like that. So I was like: **** them! I get my ore back. And was rather happy when I got everything nice and safe in my cargo bay. 2 seconds later there was a bright flash.
My biggest loss was a T2 fitted harbinger on a lvl 3 mission... gotta love lag. ~ When everything fades away, an echo is the only sound that will remain ~ -á-á~ Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds ~ |
