Here is a thread to discuss our worst losses, doesn't have to be a ship, maybe you forgot to put skills in the training queue before going on vacation or accidently clicked "Trash It..." on some expensive officer/deadspace item or perhaps it was a ship.

My worst loss is OUR worst loss, and that's the takeover of this forum by the IHI, a nefarious group of vandals who self-righteously step on every post, not allowing anyone to have an idea of their own. Through their narrow-mindedness and self-aggrandizement they've mastered beating a dead horse, but they can't seem to keep the carcass on their own posts.
It's ill, and there is no pill.
In keeping with the amenable OP:
"Worst" of course is a relative term. I've had more expensive losses, but at the point of my "career" this one occurred, it was pretty infuriating, and took some time to overcome.
'T was on a fleet op with the corpies, running level IVs for grins and gain. We were mustering at a point to warp in as a nice, well-organized (not necessarily sober) fleet. Everyone was taking their sweetass time about getting there, so I decided now would be a good time to take a bio break. I announced same in fleet audio/corp audio/corp chat/fleet chat, then scurried off to do the do. I come back to the horrifying sight of my pod. Seems the fleet commander got a bit impatient and decided to start the fun and games instead of waiting for everyone to show. He warped fleet to the site, dragging my brand new, T2 armor-tanked 'Cane with him (45 million set up at the time). I bet he was wondering why he wasn't drawing any aggro...gotta love the combat enhancing effects of Jack Daniels.
It's okay. Being shipless (for level IVs) I became the salvager and kept his share of the loot till I got the 45 mill back. He was too drunk to notice.
To her it doesn't matter much.-á It's chasms have been leapt, and she leans upon the skepticism of her chosen fate. |

Not sure about worst but this is certainly my most stupid loss. I was doing missions in a Battleship and just after the change went in that made it very, very hard for Battleship type weapons to do damage to frigates I ran into some nice NPC frigates that had me webbed and I couldn't damage them enough to make a difference. Just as my ship was exploding I remembered I had some drones on it, had I used them I would have been able to kill those tiny insignificant frigates.

When I first started playing, I tried my hand at trading and saw that there would be a good profit moving slaves from one location to another about twelve jumps away. I didn't know anything about contraband at the time and put all my money into buying slaves in Amarr space. Wasn't paying too much attention around gates and while I saw the Concord notice, I kept clicking through it. By the time I got to the station my wallet was over twenty million in the red . well if it's about silly loss, i remember my first myrmidon, years ago ; i was manuafcuring it, was happy to have a ship to sell on the market, but as i needed to move it to another station, and as i never used a myrmi before, i wanted to test it on combat before selling it. i took a quick fit, asked an agent, went to the mission, and died horribly in less than 5minutes with my new shiny ship. seemed obvious to me that given it ws bigger than a brutix, the tank would last way longer, and that even if it was almost dead i would survive... was not the case. |

So that was my main with my very first BS -a Megathron. That was like 3 months into EVE. Never had heard of tracking, but i figured that owning a bigger ship with bigger guns made a bigger bang. So I went into my very frist Lvl4 with my very first BS.
Turned out I never had heard about warp disruption.
Turned out I never had heard about "how to tank properly"
Turned out I never had heard of "drones are used on frigates when you fly a BS"
So i was warp scrambled, de-tanked and slowly smashed by a bunch of cruisers/frigates in the worst 50 seconds I ever spent in EVE. I left playing for a few weeks and then Ishtanchuk was born. I've lost other ships and i've lost quite a bit of money, but that experience was by far my worst loss.

It was a shame because I'd been really enjoying using the Deimos for L4s, and was on a bit of a roll (it was fast). I just underestimated how deadly being slowed down a lot would be. I mis-timed a few things and boomed. |

I was taking a load of goods (about 1.8 bil worth... my entire 'fortune') for sale in Esoteria (as I recall) using my trusty stabbed out prototype cloaked badger mkII (it was the only hauler I could fly at the time) and plotted out an elaborate 60+ jump route to get there from Empire thinking I would never see more than one or two in a system along that route at a time. I even brought along a shuttle scout. After hours of careful navigation I was trapped in a series of 2 gate systems by some pirates that were very careful about hiding their presence. I punched through the trap and thought I had it made... but 2 jumps from my station they finally caught and podded me. So close... and so painful at the time I thought I would never recover (I was too greedy to only fly what I could afford to loose).
...but I did.
Big time.

An Osprey. I kid you not.
Picture the scene. It was 2003, fresh faced and enjoying a new MMO I began to mine in a Bantam. I scraped and saved with miner II's being well out of budget it was miner I's and hard graft.
I remember buying that Osprey (Before any mining bonuses) feeling all hot damn! Going to go kill me some rats, first low sec belt I went into and the NPC spawn killed me. I got stuck on a roid.
That loss crippled me, so much hard work, and of course, I'd spent every penny I had on it. All I had left was my Badger (made money hauling for other miners, no barges yadda yadda) and my Bantam.
Nearly quit if it wasn't for a group of real life friends starting eve.
Wish I still had kept that character training for all those years, but his long retired :p |

My worst loss though, would have to be losing everything I had (700m) to a scam IPO 5 years ago. 700m back then was probably like 5B or so now, so it was a big deal to a noob like me.
Actually, my worst loss might be even earlier, when I was about 2 months into the game. I had recently made a ton of isk (75m, lol) selling snowballs, and I finally had enough isk to give 0.0 a try. I fitted out a brand new Wolf with some T2 parts (which were 10x more expensive back then), bought ammo BPOs and minerals, mapped out my path into syndicate, and took off. I immediately ran into Tiller, who proceeded to kill my badger II filled with my supplies. I had instas and warp core stabs, but tiller locked and killed me while aligning, which I really didn't know was possible at the time. It was christmas eve, and the final words he said before killing me were "merry christmas". That one hurt |

Drake and Raven.
My first Drake I was with some corp mates helping with World's Collide. My first time seeing that particular mission, I figured what the heck let's see how well my tank holds on the second room. Don't think it lasted even 10 seconds.
Didn't care though because I'd already bought my first Raven that I fitted up and started flying around.
My first Raven I had just started trying an active tank and saw a mission called "Enemies Abound." Was kind of wary of it after checking Eve Survival, but I figured what the heck. Went ok for a little bit, and then the enemies started pouring in and I aligned to warp out. My ship aligned, I clicked warp, and oh geez, that lil frigate's scramming me. Still some shield left and some cap to run my booster, so I figure I'll be fine. But the drones aren't killing that frigate very quickly, even after I promise to abandon them the second the frig dies, and even perma running my booster can't outdo the incoming DPS. Hurry up drones, come on you can do it! But no, I died when the frig was in structure.
Didn't care though because I'd already bought my second Drake that I fitted up and started flying around. (Found it actually worked pretty well for L4s, although it couldn't run them very quickly.)
So yeah, neither of my "big" losses were really all that significant to me. I generally try to make sure I have enough ISK for a cushion before I buy a new ship. Still pretty new though, so plenty of time to get bitten in the ass. |

Mine's a two parter, but rather related to one another. This first one was the Osprey that I used to mine, back when I first started playing and had aspirations of being an industrialist. Had it all tricked out and ready to go mining. I decided to move shop, and set autopilot to my new destination, not noticing that it took me through two low sec systems. Lost ship and pod, popping my cherry. Being three months old, that hurt and probably put me on my current path.
The second incident involved moving pretty much everything I had 6 jumps, all hi-sec. One of the systems was a .5, and I got jumped in my Badger II. Had ECM fitted, went to activate it, and the warning window popped up, the one I had previously marked to never show again much earlier in my career. Banging on the yes, please activate my GD f'n mods button, nothing happens and I lose pretty much everything. The two things that hurt about that were the facts that 1) I was hauling things I had since I started playing, and 2) since battleclinic doesn't differentiate between BPOs and BPCs as far as value, my Isk numbers are all borked to hell there now too. I think the sentimental loss is much worse though, and actually served to sever some of the feeling I have towards Eve. Make CQ and WiS an option, not a must.-á I don't play EvE for the toon spinning. |

Outside of my account, I think my biggest loss in EVE was the loss of nerve that stopped me from deploying my Nidhoggur in combat. Now that fat rusty ************ just sits in Intaki being a 1 billion ISK lump of nothing useful. The last time we used it for anything worthwhile was when we used it to quickly transport all our stuff back home after we hastily evacuated everything in our wormhole into Amarr space. So yeah, the most use my carrier has been in the last year was as a glorified hauler with a ship maintenance bay and a jumpdrive.

After all was done I warped to station to pick op my brand new sigil so I could haul my ore back. Unfortunately a SB and a 'Cane flipped my can when I warped back in. At the time I didn't know anything about aggression and stuff like that. So I was like: **** them! I get my ore back.
