"Operation of shield hardeners and other advanced shield modules.
Bonus: 5% reduced chance of damage penetrating the shield."
What does this skill actually do? Does it make your hardeners get 5% extra hardening pr. level? If so, I can't say I've noticed it at all.

Its most noticable when you fly a frig that has enough shields to take a really heavy hit i.e a Torpedo or megapulse hit, sometimes you'll lose like half your shield and alot of armour before the shield goes down, tac shield manipulation stops that from happening

A must for any serious shield tanker. LVL 4 for sure LVL 5 if you have the stomack for it and nothing more important to train. "The object of war is not to die for your corp, but to make the other b@##@#d die for his" |

Edited by: Elithiomel on 11/03/2005 14:34:43 Iirc it works something like this. Someone correct me if this is wrong.
With no tac shield skill, when your shields get to 25% then damage starts to seep through to your armour even though you still have some shields left. For each level of tac shield that 25% is reduced by 5%, until at level 5 you get no seep through armour damage. ie your shields need to go to zero before you start taking damage to armour.
There are also Shield Piercing and Armour Breaching skills that have never been released. I get the feeling that they were planned as a counter to the tac shield bonus. --------------------------------------------- Engineers motto; If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. |

Edited by: Minuz1 on 15/03/2005 02:34:46 I'm sorry to say but this is a total fubar skill.. dmg seeping through the shields will not matter unless you plan to have another battle after you have recieved the dmg to the armor. If you blow up before reaching 100% shields again the skill will not have done anything to benefit you since it will not increase the resisted hp's of your ship.

Strange, works for me.
Did a little experiment a while ago before and tested shields at tact 3 then tact 4 and noticed less bleed (only marginal) to armor.
I am training it to 5 now (18 days :/), and have shield op & and management to 5.

It does work when you're shieldtanking, because you'll have high resists with shield, low with armour -> bleeding through will result in more armour damage then it would do to your shield. Furthermore when you're shieldtanking, your tank might hold the damage (lot's of damage every hit, not too much hits), but if with every hit your armour is also damaged, this damage is not repaired, resulting in a ship that can get killed in the end while still having his shield up.
So when you're shieldtanking it might actually be a very handy skill
