Recently, we've had a a couple corps move into an area that was previously quiet. Since their arrival, they have constantly mined out the area and also shown themselves to be total dicks in local. We would like to hire mercs to provide a little motivation for them to relocate.

Gosh, miners really are a lazy bunch now. Back in the day you couldn't just warp to an asteroid belt. You had to spend an entire morning just mapping the system to know where the rocks are. And guess what? The damn rocks didn't respawn after they were mined out! Mining was tough work back then and a respectable profession. Now you have your gadgets and gizmos doing all the work for you and you've become lazy. Be a man, move your hide to a new system and search for the rocks.
Do the right thing. I have a lover, her name is EVE. I see her every night and all she asks in return is that I have a pilot's license. |

Miners have such a sense of entitlement. I've received so many requests from "brave" miners who want a competitor dispatched because "they were mining my asteroid belt", "I found this mining system and I don't want competition" or "not taking proper anti-gank precautions and making me a target" up to "not honoring the miner code" (whatever that is).
These dudes seem to think they own highsec and even more so these days with CCP pandering to them. Poor miners don't seem to understand that highsec is common grazing ground for fat dump carebears. You don't own anything and have no right to any resource more than the other guide. But as sick as these dudes make me I'm not complaining. I enjoy the work. Not sure I agree with you on this.
The fact that hi-sec miners want to eat each other alive brings all kinds of fun emergent gameplay. Little "mining wars" in high-sec over "mineral rights" is good for EVE as a whole, especially (or -specifically is more like it) if mining ships are exploding and ships are fighting.
I think it's good stuff. Bring some war! |

All those people mocking OP for wanting to hire mercs on his competitors; how is this a bad thing? This kind of gameplay is what EVE is about - you find you have competition, you either blow them up or persuade someone else to do it for you. Perhaps they hire their own mercenary force, or perhaps they all learn to shoot guns themselves. That way you have your own little war.
Whatever happens as an outcome of hiring mercenaries has to be much more interesting than just docilely sharing the system or relocating.

Hire a miner bumper...not joking, it's a logical method to remove your competitors, costs no isk for a war dec, infuriates an enemy that would otherwise dock up and wait out the war dec, and prevents them from moving in on your turf while you mine. You could hire a smaller unknown group to do it for much less isk than a more notorious merc corp. |

This is cost effective and more infuriating than a war dec. It's also pretty funny watching mining ships launched out of the belt . |
