The upcoming Retribution expansion seems pretty light on features. I mean I do understand the need to fix the difficult to understand aggression systems, and to make bounty hunting a viable profession. The updated AI should be nice.
But apart from a couple new ships. Is this really it? Or is there another announcement forthcoming?
I recall it being mentioned at fanfest that we would be getting avatar tattoos this year, but that seems to have been conveniently hushed up.
It seems the days of expansions like Apocrypha and Trinity are long behind us, never to return. Which is a shame. Expansions in EVE have become far less exciting than they used to be. And they certainly don't have the wow factor that expansions like Apocrapha did.
I miss the days when expansions brought a renewed sense of wonder to EVE.

Yeah after CCP stated in their last dev blog that that was gonna be their last dev blog till expansion release, I too have felt disappointed with what is coming.
I will not be voting in the CSM election, so you need to go vote to make up for me. |

Because avatar arm tattoos are so much more fun than All the rest of the frigs being rebalanced, miner frig to replace those 4 awful empire mining frigs, all destroyers reballanced, new destroyers, all cruisers reballanced, Sansha and Concord V3, New bounty hunting updates, DUST connection, Crimewatch v2, missile/ASB changes. NPC AI, Stabber, Vagabond, Tempest remodels |

Go to the retribution website .. there are three items there. I don't know where you got the rest from.
Those three items are
Crimewatch V2
Bounty Hunting
A new frig and four new destroyers.
And no. I do not count balancing as new content or even expansion worthy material. It's simply an ongoing activity that needs to be done for a healthy game. I know of no other game that does some re-balancing and calls it an expansion.
Expansions are meant to be just that .. expansions .. as in expanding the game experience. Anything else is just a patch.

I've been thinking that the last 12 months have been a bit of a health check for EVE, where CCP has had to go back to basics and fix the games foundations.
It's not very interesting work, and certainly won't net them many new subscribers (WoW EVE has free expansions that feature exciting tweaks and changes behind the scenes! OMG sign me up), boring (in the extreme) but necessary.

don't forget a reworked bounty hunting system (i cant emphasize enough how much that will change)
other possible changes are a new treaty and contract system, according to the CSM minutes team superfriends is working on that, but recent postings sound like these guys are responsible for above mentioned bounty hunting system
ccp karkur has confirmed that she has finished work on a devblog, i have no idea what its going to be about, but there is supposedly a large CCP team working on (new)-player experience, which probably includes a lot of papercut work which will ease the life of everyone playing eve and not just the new players.
we will have another round of work on the factional warfare system, hopefully ending some absolutely terrible mechanics, currently used to farm bazillions of LP |

False. Apocrypha had a large amount of new content and was incredibly fun and to this point remains the best expansion in the game during the time that I have played.
