If someone has a low sec rating and they ask to haul your ore. Its probably a bad idea to sit and mine for them for an hour.

GJ, your alt made... practically no isk, in comparison to what you could have made on your main character. But congrats on managing to ruin a noob's day while gaining nothing for yourself.

Keep it friendly.
In EVE you can either be a pirate, a miner, a trader and apparantly an ore thief. That doesn't mean you can insult people if they do not share your profession.

While I'm not a fan of insulting people unless its for a really good reason... I differ on that.. If you can ore thieve, scam, etc.. Insults should be free too. Depending on board rules that may get you banned, but hey, insults could be considered part of the game as well..

GM warn for profanity as well at times. Only on the Intergalatic Summit is a bit more freedom about the rivalary between professions.

I thought about sending them 4 mil since this is worth around 8 mil, but my corpmate advised against it bcuz I did it with my main character ina pirate corp and he didnt want us to seem soft.

IĈd like to send the miner a few mil also. Unfortunately you canĈt believe anything an ore thief says. HeĈd probably post his alts name. Thieves are liars and liars are thieves.

This guy taught this n00b an important lesson of Eve. Trust no one. Would Mr. N00b prefer to learn it with trusting to give someone 55 million isk downpayment to get a Megathron built or some crappy ore?

Well Halleluah and Amen. Look it's just plain fun because you never know what you will find. Sometimes you find amazing stuff, like the times I've found harvestor drones just left in space.
But it's one of the few games where you can role play a thief. You may recall in the early years of Ultima you could really role play a thief and it was a lot of fun. But of course all the people complained, so they ended it.
I like stealing things especially when it's not real. This is just a game. I keep reminding folks of that.
And lastly it can be very lucrative at times. The other day I ran into a very old player and he convo'd me and said "Please don't steal my stuff, please". Well, so I didn't. When you respond to my warping into the asteroid field by threatening me and calling me every name in the book, you can bet I'll steal your ore.

Ore Theiving is not a 'profession' anyway imo, it's just something little people do in order to make themselves feel big.

IT'S A GAME. It's for fun. You probably say the same thing about combat, "oh they just do that to make themselves feel big".

Most of people dont care anyway as the flow of isk is not disrupted, the ore gets sold anyways, and builders will buy it anyways just from another person. But thieving is a nice idea, next time i need trit for my ammo i might just go into a belt in yulai and "borrow" some 50-60k of your scord/veld. _______________________________________________

Actually I have had some good mineing ops with "Time Stealers" If they haul the first lot and split the profit there and then they can carry on, sometimes making triple what they would make. We have a laugh, a chat about things in general, but I always give them the last haul FOC as it's going to be stolen anyway. No such thing as an ore stealer, you jet can at your own risk but they can steal the time it took to fill your cans. It's only a game. Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make it's own judgements.

Isn't insulting a pair of miners the entire point of this thread? Or did you really think he was trying to give helpfull advice?

It's still a bit of advice, but feel free to make a guide that explain how to limit the risks or ore stealing, scamming and ore thieving for new players in particular.
Even last night I explained to a character, who was 3 months old. that when he enters 0.0 people can shoot at him and there is no protection. You may know that and take it for granted but alot of people still don't know how it works and for instance dont know where to get containers and what the difference is with a secure container.
