Hi there,
I was wondering if someone could explain to me the difference between ranks and levels. For example, I have AB rank 1, lvl 2. What do I have to do to get Rank 2? What are the training times to get Rank 2 lvl 2?
I'm just very confused about this whole skill process. This is my first MMORPG, so please bear with me :) So far I'm loving EVE and can't wait to get more skills and better ships :D
Thanks,
Poi

Rank 1/2/3 only affects the time it takes to train your skill to another level. Rank cannot be changed and you dont want it to go up ---------------------------

the higher the rank the longer it takes to train the skill as you soon will find out
sugestion since ure new and a recomendation to all newbies in EVE
get learning skills at ATLEAST lev 4 right away this will have long time benefits the skills u should get are.
Iron will - Boosts willpower Analytical Mind - Boosts intelligence Instant Recall - Boosts memory Spatial awarness - Boosts perception Learning - makes skill take 2% less time to train per lev
all these will let you train skills faster if u checka skills description you will see a primary and secondary attribute the higher ure attrivutes are the faster it will take to train the skill.
Perception and willpower is for combat and ship skills primary
Intelligence and Memory are for industrials and research
now there is 1 i havent mentioned and thats charisma... a attribute almost no one in eve has put points into since its only good for 2 things
1. Training corp management skills (not many of these)
2. Tranining agent skills that will boost ure standing with them
so my 5 cent is focus on the 4 i talked abaout and ignore charisma unless ure gonna become a rela hard core agent worker..
hope this helps.. cheers

so by increasing your learning skills does that change the rank? or just speed up the time it takes to level up?

just speeds up the time
If you take a look at the skills forum there's a stickied thread about it with lots of maths

Learning skills increase your attributes, therefore it also increase your SP/minute rate. Learning does exactly the same, as it's part of the formula used to calculate this rate.
Rank cannot be affected by anything so far. Rank is a multiplier of time to train.
A rank 1 skill at level 5 worth 256k skillpoints, whereas a level 2 holds 512k, a lvl 3 768k... Increase your learning skills and you reduce the time to get these 256k skillpoints (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I'm getting it. Very complex game, but I'm looking forward to learning more about it!
Thanks again!

Charisma is a highly useful attribute as it's primary for learning pretty much any social skills. That can affect agents, who give you missions, station standing which affects refining taxes, and if you plan to do anything involving trading, why, you'll need the trading skills. Ok, so CHA is secondary for trading itself, but it all helps. __________________ Interstellar joy-rider |
