Is there a point to these? From what i've seen you can fit two in an m-12, fire them long apart, and they do even less damage than missles.
Is there any word on these being beefed up or totally removed as they are worse than useless.

i always wanted smart mines. mines that if threat came close would move towards it to a certain extent, and ability to release them from cargo. that way industrial ships could double as a mine field layer.

I assumed they were intended as strategic weapons. I've not used them but could they be used to mine a stargate before an ambush?

You can fit two in an m-12 launcher, each does 30 damage. Totally useless imo. They probably disapear quickly as well. They are also probably visible like a missle as well.

They are not all that visble. very hard to see visually, though they do appear on radar.
They are good for ambushing and laying at Pirate spawn points. They also have a blast radius of 500m, thats pretty big. They will do 30 damage to all ships inside of that bubble. Also if you knew where a person was coming from you could lay several right on top of each other. Lay 10 mines right ontop of each other, thats 300 damage.

Yes but you'd need a kestrel to lay that many without spending 5 mins doing so. (Bit out of proportion, but you get my point) My point was they take up too much cargo space and reload time is a ***** to launch.
