I'm fresh of the transport and still learning which buttons turn on the coffee machine in my rookie ship but otherwise progessing nicely. I thought I'd share my first deflowering!
I'm zipping around my home sector and checking things out all the while I'm trying to complete missions from my second agent. My current mission involved passing through 0.4 space ( hold me !!!) so anyway, my ship is disabled for the first time by a bad guy as I approach the gate to exit this frightfull place. He messages me to transfer cash or DIE! What do you do? Well, apparently texting back "what! all my isk??? Phttt. But hey! I'll give ya 50isk to suck on my warp coil" is not a prudent responce
It's all good though. I got to say hi to my clone!

Hmmm, add that to research list. Yikes ! I'm still fumbling around with skill set and how it translates to your activity objectives. I can already see that a lack af proper investigation can be costly.
Kudos to the community though, I've come across much player created content to assist my sorry spacejockey butt.
Sideline: anyone know where the rum asteriods are, I'm trying to stay in charater as far as a family line goes

Hehe, welcome aboard :)
If you're interested in player created content read up on some of the threads on the Intergalactic Summit and get a feel for some of the RP story lines going on atm, v.interesting stuff :)
The chroincles on this site are also a good read and give some depth/insight into the history of EVE and its various factions. |

simple travelling bm's, warp from one object eg a gate to another, fly past the gate your warp to by around 12km, have people and places open on locations tab, click the add bookmark button. Edit the bm afterwards to say for eg <gate a> to <gate b> eg in Yulai you could have Lustrevik to kemerk for eg. Instead of using autopilot, you warp to the bm you made at 15k and it *should* bring you out in jump range of the gate allowing you to jump faster and hence be less exposed to ebil pirates.

No rum roids, but you can acquire Spiced Wine and Spirits through the market. You used to be able to get them from raiding convoys.

joining a corporation si always a good, idea
members are alot worth and theres always a great demand, so choose what u want to do - and enjoy the game.
more experienced players can give u the tipps how to avoid getting killed
npc corps also have such players, but player corps are more personal

Also, think about the tricks people tell you about, and decide if you want to use them or not. IMO, Instas are an exploit of game mechanics, and I don't use them, even though they increase your survivabilty by about 1000%.
Another thing people will recommend is using alt chars to be spies for your main... also an exploit of game mechanics.
Nothing is done about either of the exploits though, so they are unofficailly allowed.
Another one is mining into jetcans, also an exploit, also not officially disallowed.
Anyway, you have a nice attitude towards the game, and I hope you stick around. Welcome to EVE.

T Y , You share my opinion as well, I find value for the money is only worth it if you can enjoy the immersion and role play. To game the game really only cheats one out of the true reason it should even be played in the first place.
Enjoyed reading the replies, I look forward to soon making the most of the games MMP aspect when my nooobish glow subsides a little bit.
Competitve by nature, Humble by reality ! Cheers.

Don't start using IJBMs, because you're just gonna be really disapointed when the mighty devs finally awake from their 100 year slumber and realise that the "I'm 100% safe from pirates and can cross the entire galaxy in 5 minuites in the slowest ship in the game" -feature has to be removed...

Instas are 100% safe since when? I've been ganked at gates three times, each time while using instas. I only escaped the first two times because of very careful ship fitting. The third time I enjoyed a clone jump to the station I was heading for anyway.

Edited by: Beauius on 19/03/2005 03:33:39 I was attacked a few weeks ago by a pirate in a Maller, and me in my Caracal. (I'd love to get this guy back..his name was NukeEm..) and he started warp jamming me, so i fired...i was getting his shields down, i thought I would actually get him. I'm sure he had lot's tricks up his sleeve that I didn't. Finally, a big blue explosion and there's my pod. He warp jams it. Then..this guy MESSAGES me...I open it up..he says "2 million or I destroy your pod.." I tell him I don't work with pirate scum, and a single laser came from him and destroyed me. Luckily , I had plenty of cash and insurance and a good clone. As soon as I was back in base I realised that my heart had been beating hard for like 10 minutes straight...it was so fun..yeh, I was a little irked, but more at myself for not being prepared. I wanted to message the guy and tell him thanks for the good time, but I think that was pushing it. Instead I swore revenge! HE better watch his back!

Make sure you have a new clone good enough to cover all your skill points.
One of the really good guys in my old corp got killed and lost about a million skill points because he did not update his clone on a previous death.

I know I can't be the only one watching my shields, armor and hull collapse, while doing the "jump, jump, jump, jump" chant to get to the next gate. Sure it get's you to the recieving gate quicker, but you still gotta get into warp b4 that Gankageddon sends you home on the clone express.
Oh yeah, welcome to eve m8, good to see your first podding didn't discourage you from getting back into it...Keep a note of his name, and, who knows, maybe next time you meet, you'll have him on the business end of your turrets ***********************************
