I recall reading in the CSM meeting minutes something about a revision to the current approach to POSs.
The points that caught my eye were: -- Can be owned by individual players -- Personalized to reflect a sense of home -- Anchorable just about anywhere -- Streamlined anchoring mechanic
I haven't seen much information on that since, although I could have missed it.
Anyone know what's up with this? I think those changes would be most excellent. |

Here's some changes I'd like to see:
1. Being able to actually dock and live in your POS full-time. (A hab module that has a "captain's quarters" would be cool.) 2. Being able to repair/repackage ships and modules. 3. Unification of manufacturing types into one module (modules, drones, and ammo). I don't see the sense in having so many different kinds of mfg modules. 4. A less nasty management interface. 5. Instead of having three control towers (small, med, large), simply allow powergrid and CPU to be upgraded via modules. Increased CPU/grid means increased fuel consumption.

1. Shouldn't happen. This would destroy the value of station eggs. 2. Sure why not. 3. Rather than this I'd like to see pos that lets you link various modules that do this. 4. Yes please. 5. I'm neutral on this. |

As far as 1 is concerned, you have a point but the ability to personalize and inhabit a POS really does need to happen.
Now if that means that certain things are only really practical to do in an Outpost, so be it. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

That's good to know - thank you. Do you know what the changes will include? What has been seriously discussed is:
1: Modular. Able to build in different capabilities or make those capabilities better by adding more components. 2: Part of a single structure that interlocks rather than independent from each other, think Lego's. 3: Ability to personalize. Can be owned by an individual instead of a corporation. 4: Included captains quarters, possibly other area's if developed at that time. 5: No force fields. 6: Ships dock like at a station/outpost. 7: Anchor-able in many more locations in a system. 8: Able to anchor more than one in a given area, perhaps form communities or encampments of POS's in the same area. 9: Fueling to work differently, be less difficult. Easier to maintain. 10: Far, far down the line perhaps even somewhat mobile.
They are just entering the concept stage, so obviously nothing has been set in stone or developed yet, and many of these idea's are very ambitious, but they seem pretty set on redoing the whole concept. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. I think 'growing' a structure to be specific to the inhabitants would be best. Let players decide if they want it to function more closely to a station or more towards a deep outpost with defenses, and of course everything in between. Both destructible in their own way.

#1 isn't a bad idea even if does crash eggs in the process. Switching over to destroyable stations needs to happen, however CCP has been reluctant to change normal stations over for various good reasons, so making POSs into mini-destructible stations will help that.. |

Problem with pos is its code is ancient and none in current ccp has even clue how it works. So theyre delaying fixing it untill they run out of excuses to do so.
Personally i would settle for improved management interface. Current one is terible. Really terible.
But then again im looking forward what they comeup when they finally get arround to fix it. [Insert something funny or smart here] |

Dead sticks are already a problem in a lot of systems. Isn't there some timer that causes a control tower to go poof? I.e., if the owning corp goes inactive or the tower remains unfueled for more than 30 days or something? Or does the game just leave the dead sticks there forever, tying up that moon indefinitely?

This is an interesting point.
Clearly, personal POSs cannot be "no risk" propositions. We don't want SimEVE here.
That said, if personal POSs are to become part of the game mechanic, then risk v. reward will need to balance--otherwise it is a pointless area of development. |

I think it would be cool if communities in low/ null had to design PoS layouts to account for defense against attacks. Outer ring PoS's would have a focus on defense and guns, while the inner ones would be mining or producing.
Automated gun and drone bays would be cool. Then they could have scripts for them that allow you to configure thier actions and use.
