EVERYONE in eve works for a profit. EVERYONE, it doesn't matter how much isk they have. If people are price gouging then there is a market for someone to undercut them. If people can make more isk offsetting costs then they will do.
Basically your post is proven wrong by 2 years of eve, and nearly 500 years of ancient earth history.
