Yes and why can't I pod them!?
I thought I read somewhere that NPC pirate ships are TECHNICALLY drones (but not the now-common dead space drones) and therefore have no pod or real pilot. Maybe that's why they don't burn - because they're not REAL ships. á

NPC ships are not pod pilots afaik.
They are sterotypical captains in their armchairs, so when their ships blows, they blow too.
Of course, having the graphic for hundreds of crewmen falling out into space would be kinda cool, if a lil morbid. -----------------------------

Im sorry but I dont see how any of the above reasons would effect weather a ship would burn or not. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

Edited by: Jernau Gurgeh on 23/03/2005 14:57:12 The answer is simple.
NPC ships do not burn because there is insufficient oxygen is space to effect combustion.
The real question should be "why do PC ships burn?"
There are 10 sorts of people in the world - those who understand binary, and those who do not. |

Edited by: Raem Civrie on 23/03/2005 15:11:01 Because there is oxygen inside escaping through hull breaches that fuels the fire.
Granted, the fire would probably look a lil' different than it does now...
P.S
All NPC ships should have a randomized crew count (frigates would have 10-50, cruisers 1500-2000, battleships way more), as should PC ships (with only 25% of the crew since podpiloting is more efficient). Then, the game should keep track of how many INNOCENT LIVES ARE LOST whenever you blow up a ship.

uh you guys arent thinking too smart... if there was a fire the oxygen would be gone in a second cause of holes in the hull = explosive decompression = no more oxygen = no more fire

Its possible the fires are plasma based, and the smoke is byproduct of the hull being burnt/corroded by the plasma.
Just a thought

Edited by: Thyro on 23/03/2005 15:46:54 The NPC ships don't burn because Developers didn't make the effort in quality to program such thing.
Would be nice to see it!
However its complete nosense to see flames/smoke and even sound in Space (example gates, other ship weapons, warps etc)... Hey! this a game! True! but it could be a better for sure
But from "BS/Cruisers/Frigate" drones (what ever that mean) with no crew on board appearing from no where (funny - I also want their jump drives!) ... well that shows "lack of something" so don't expect to see smoke for those drones... they are there just to make you a happy looter or a sad ship loser!

i think the fire would cause tons of lag. I mean, if your in like a 5/10 complex where theres tons of ships and lag already, wouldnt adding more graphics create more lag? ----------------------------------------------- CANADIAN |

Edited by: Thyro on 23/03/2005 15:54:07 Exodus cause lag (unforutnatly more than previous game versions) 3v3 cause lag 20v20 doesn't cause lag (they are simply stopped) Many users logged on cause lag Many users in one system cause lag Many Mining lasers cause lag Drones cause lag Deadspace cause lag Well everything cause lag
you don't see smoke coz was not programmed thats all (seem inrelevant matter actually)

Believe it or not, one of the most accurrate representation of a burning ship in space was done for Red Planet, the better of the two crappy Mars movies that came out a few years ago. Basically the interior of the ship was on fire and a hatch had to be popped open to vent the air to snuff the fire out. Basically looked like an expanding bubble of smoke particles growing on the side of the ship where the fire came out since the decompression sucks out the air with such force. Almost as much suck as the movie itself. ___winterblink/warp_drive_active/eve_nature_vraie// |

AFAIR, crew were : Frigates : 1-3 peeps Cruiser : 300/600 peeps BS : 5k/6k peeps
So it would cause IMO a lot of lag during lvl4 missions :DDDD (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

True and NPCS standard procedure is...
Seconds before their (npcs) ship get destroyed they jump into their "eggs"...
Then they switch on the cloak and detatch the "eggs" from the ship seconds before the omelet fireworks
Thats why you don't see their pods ... the reaso why you see human pods and not the pods of npcs or even of your ship's crew is ... all of them are equiped with cloaks and your pod is a old version

I think it's way more disturbing NPCs hardly ever warp out, never use any ECM and all give out their setups so nicely with these cute little names...
In some occasions even mining can be more dangerous then NPC farming.
First make them play like they at least have some intelligence I say, then concern about the fire...

That actually raises an interesting point. How much more fun would this game be if NPCs actually ACTED more player-like? Ran away when the going gets tough, that is. Imagine having to chase some hapless Serpentis to a moon as he tries to shake you off.
Just a thought, but this might make creating combat loadouts for ships a lot easier, when the distinction between npc vs pc setups gets a bit more blurry.
