IMO, these are among the most useless modules in the game. Why? Let's see.
Micro: *25CPU!* *5grid!* (adds only 30 cap units) Small: *50CPU!* *10grid!* (adds only 60 cap units) Medium: *75CPU!* *75grid!* (adds only 240 cap units) Large: *100CPU!* *275grid!* (adds only 400 cap units)
Seriously, these could help passive cap recharge quite a bit if they didn't consume huge fitting resources and only return a meager, at best, cap unit bonus in return.
Micro: Fitting is ok, just upp the cap increase to like 50 or so.
Small: Ok..WHAT module that is designed for a frigate uses THAT MUCH CPU, aside form this one? Dmg mods maybe? How about 30 CPU and about 8 grid, along with about 80-100 cap units.
Medium: Ok, this is where stuff gets silly. 75/75 fitting? WTF?75 grid..ok, maybe, but 60 seems more realiistic. But 75CPU? I'm not sacrificing 1/3 of my entire CPU output for a 1/4 cap increase. Let's think more along the lines of 40-50CPU, and maybe 275 cap units increase or so.
Large: This is where I first noticed the issue. I wanted to try out passivve cap recharging, to see if the max capacitance + recharger rate increases actually worked better than straightup cap rechargers. THEN, I saw how horrible the fitting reqs were for the return on cap units. There's just no way anyone can fit ONE of these on a battleship and not have a gimped setup, and with 4.5K - 5.5K and higher base cap sizes, who would blow that much CPU/grid on a measely 400 cap? Let's think 70CPU, and about 200 grid, and 600 cap unit bonus.
Fix these, and it might help the cap recharge problems some ships seem to be cursed with..if not, then at least alleviate it somewhat.

Tech 2 medium cap batteries work wonders on cruisers...they do use up lots of grid, but if you need a lot of cap recharge, 1 of these is always a good idea.

Edited by: Selim on 24/03/2005 00:15:51 Large is good on some wierd cruiser setups... except for the fact that a medium capacitor injector is just as good, fits easier and is less vulnerable to nosferatu. Only downside is that you'll only last a fight or two before needing resupply.
So your choice is either:
Medium Battery: Worst recharge, but relatively easy to fit and no cargo problems Medium Injector: Major cargo problems, best for fighting usually and easy to fit Large Battery: No cargo problems, good for recharge but hard to fit.
They need tech 2 large batteries, I have a vagabond I'd like to slam one on.

When you fly Caldari ships, you often don't have the choice but equipping one

The problem ist that XL cap bats are not acctually in the game - at least I have never seen one... But yea, overall the cap batteries would have to be a lot bigger to acctually break even with the recharge rate of a recharger at their cost.

I agree that the cap batteries need a small increase in yield, and the T2 large needs to be made available. _________________________________________________ War transcends all barriers of species, race, religion, and civilization. |

I have to use 2 on my kessy for lvl4 missions. I think it's quicker and easier to strap a mwd,2 cargo expanders and 2 cap batteries and pick up the cans with that than it is to bust out a hauler.
Having 2 fitted negates the mwd drain on cap and allows me to easily warp around my systems clearing up, and with 465 cargo (alpha and beta hull mod(which makes a slightly expensive frig)) i seem to get the job done. =============================================

Small T2 Capacitor Battery on my Harpy with a Gistii Booster. Shield boost.. forever. I must disagree wit you 100%. There comes a point where more cap is more effective than a recharge rate. á

hhmmz... maybe multiplying all cap batteries output by x2 would be good would definately make them a better module.

/me ponders telling people...
yeh, what the hell. Tech 2 ships, especially caldari ones. Throwing a large peroxide onto a cerberus, for instance, gives you i think +50% cap/sec (might be more actually, cant remember). with 2 of them, your getting more cap/sec than most battleships. if they were all doubled, well, i wouldnt complain. hell, i'd be very happy. my ships would now be near invincinble :P
basically, they have their uses. not many uses i admit, but that just helps to keep the price down ;)

They do have their uses on a few configs, just not on battleships. The large should give more like 1000 bonus cap (maybe even higher) for much higher fitting (powergrid not cpu - maybe 2000 grid) to be useful as a battleship module.
Alternatively an XL needs adding, so the large can still be used on heavy assaults
