edit/This is a great update CCP! GOOD WORK!
Now it's time for me to find some teams to sponsor! And with the sponsor slot this makes everything easier. I assume that you when listing teams also will list the sponsor?

This is the plan
Essentially what will happen is that an Alliance executor will submit a petition saying something like, 'Perihilion Alliance will sponsor Team Peri.' Once this happens we will be in touch with the respective Team Captain and once we have agreement from both sides we will then have a contract. In the event that Team Peri win the tournament they will receive the cash prize along with sponsor prizes. The Alliance executor will receive the PLEX.

tbh I like how EvE will be a new player on the e-sports market, next to LoL, Starcraft, maybe GW2, etc.
So far the annual tournaments provided a nice (niche) insight to eve's pvp but mostly for the ingame community, hopefully this new format will give other people outside of eve a glimps that eve isn't all online spreadsheets.
One question; how will the commentary tackle the lack of pvp knowlegde for the uninitiated ? Eve Radio |

To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I don't know why you're pandering to anyone who actually believes this. Despite having barred faction modules, tournaments in Eve are not typically won by those who cannot put in a significant chunk of isk to finance their team's equipment. If they're poor enough that twenty plex instead of ten was some sort of enormous financial burden (oh no a whole twelve billion isk!) than odds are they'd probably not do well anyway. I think this is a great response by CCP to concerns raised by the community. Even better that the response worked its way into THIS tournament and not the next one. Props from me CCP, if it means anything. |

Buying faction modules is not the issue, for most corps, ships are already present, and if they are not people want to buy them because they can use them in the tourney AND in game. However, buying 20 plex just to spend on a tournament is something else, because it couldn't be used in any other way afterwards. This is the issue smaller corps are having. We could purchase a whole fleet for 2-3bil, but 20 plexes in addition to that just to throw on a tourney is a bit much.
Anyways the changes are good. |

Pls read the blog here and leave your feedback and thoughts in this thread. GÇ£The minimum PLEX bid is too highGÇ¥ and, GÇ£There are only a select few that are wealthy enough to participateGÇ¥. When we decided on our team and auction format we envisioned indie teams of skilled pilots. Even though these sorts of teams donGÇÖt necessarily have enough ISK to fund their tournament and entry costs, we envisioned larger groups being able to fund these highly skilled teams. It is now clear to us know that the current prize structure provides no incentive for sponsorship in terms of rewards to the sponsor.
To Be Honest my first fear was that the auction system itself would be gamed so that the small guys would be quickly out bid in PLEX & the slot auctions would run into the 100's. I guess that is not true if the minimum bid is now being lowered to 10? When I first started Eve I wasin an Alliance that tried to enter the ATX tourney but we were quickly priced out... I recall putting acouple hundred million to a billion into the kitty & got it all back after a long wait from CCP. Since then I was a bit turned off from the process. Maybe if you are seeing many teams getting priced out a lotto( random draw) option for a few slots sort of like a few wildcard team slot like in the NFL would help with what some percieve asa spacerich only Tourney which the little guys can afford?
Not being a leet PvPer though (well heck I guess I'm a carbear ) Idon't feel qualified to dump on that side of the sandbox soo I hope it gets worked out & you all get into the watching Tourney so much you leave my Ice mining alt all alone gank free in gallante space. Have fun

I take it there wasn't enough interest after the lackluster treatment of the last couple of tournaments.
Hopefully you can redeem confidence in your abilities as these tournaments used to be very entertaining. (a¦á_a¦â) ~ (my spaceblog) http://bit.ly/RB6X4C ~ (a¦á_a¦â) |

I realize it's tempting to give the AT prize ships a low point cost so that teams have an incentive to field them, and CCP gets the additional publicity from "OMG, a 50bil ship on the field", but it's not very fair to people who don't have them. Most, although not all, of them are clearly stronger than their t2 counterparts (it would be very strange if they weren't).
Conceptually what is the difference between giving those ships a lower cost than their utility is worth relative to other ships and, say, allowing officer modules? |

What corestwo is saying is that serious AT contenders have historically spent several times that amount on ammo alone (a statement which is admittedly a little deceiving as high-grade faction ammo is a major expense). To throw around some numbers: Shadoo publicly proclaimed that PL spent about the cost of a titan on their AT participation last year and according to what a little birdie told me TEST had a 180b budget allocated for this year's AT.
If anything participation in this tournament will be even more costly than AT participation as the ban system forces you to prepare a really wide variety of setups (unless, of course, you want to be the one team who can't bring the best possible fleet comp because you relied on buying everything last minute and a competitor bought out Jita for a crucial component of your setup ... ). Without the restriction rgd pilots having to have been in the alliance they fly for for a set amount of time (2 months for AT iirc?) buying highly specialized characters on the bazaar to fill holes in your line-up has also become a much more viable tactic.
If you enter the tournament with the goal of having a fun tournament experience you can get by with very little expenditure but if you play to win you probably won't even notice the impact of an extra 5b on your budget. I'm a NPC corp alt, any argument I make is invalid. |
