we got a working test server... can't ccp just do a second server, all non pvp? letting people one-way transfer their chars to it if they don't want to pvp? Pvp will not die since most of people who likes the thrill of pvp and such would remain on the main server, while non pvpers can go to the second server (and not the other way around) where they could play how they want whithout worry of pvp at all.

after a week u will get bored want back into the main server.. all roads lead to pvp be your role as head of a powerfull battle group locking horns with the likes of m0o or manager of a small ship building outfit suplying frigates to a group of ragtag pirates the end is always the same.. no pvp = no eve ------------------------------------- Camping a gate near u...SoonÖ |

oh I won't leave at all trust me. I enjoy eve online and I've never did a single pvp thing for all the time I've been around (way over a year) I don't even have pvp alts I just kept on manifacturing my little stuff, mining low end ore, and treating costumers with respect and nicedness :D I would probably go on other 10 years whithout pvp.
I am not really sure eve wouldn't exist whithout pvp. the only way to try it out is.. well try the non pvp server, if what you say is true only a handful of people will keep on play there, personally I think alot of people would maybe all the newbies that after got a hang of it will make a char on the pvp server or things like that.

Edited by: Dr LoveJoy on 29/03/2005 09:27:10 u realy dont like pvp at all do u? heres some advice get a intercepter and give it a go also theres plenty of newb pirate corps who engage in empire wars who are allways looking for people..
i'll come clean this toon is a alt my main char has played since beta has a full set of implants and costs the earth to clone i would be ****ed if someone poded him so i dont go into 0.0 i stay in .5+ and run agent missions like half the server, hes just a front now a meens to fund a pvp adiction.. if u dont like getting killed dont leave safe space.. make a alt and prey in they who are stupid enough to.. ------------------------------------- Camping a gate near u...SoonÖ |

If there was no PvP, no one would buy your ships, apart from the occasional agent runner who messed up. No PvP, no economy, no EVE. its as simple as that.

people would still build ships, I know many people lost ships in pve in deadspace or in unsafe space just because they was there. you have no proof there can't be economy whithout pvp. actually the whole economy is slowly collapsing because of pvp, inflation rises because pvpers loses way more ships than the carebears can replace :) I am fairly sure economy can run also whithout pvp. it's all about test it out no? nobody would lose anything in a 'test PVE server' where carebears can go and try to live a peaceful life.
(and yep I stick to 0.5 and above... and no I don't really like pvp, but got nothing against people who does it if they have fun, all the better just don't involve me in it )

not speaking to change anything on the main server, so stop feeling attacked by my idea :) nothing would change for you pvpers. just would give a place where to fight, explore and exploit the whole universe of eve whithout bothering about pvp. so far, for many seems to be playing a trial limited version of the game because they do not like pvp :)

Eliminating PvP, or separate server, is not the way to go. We could use some more incentives for player-enforced law enforcement in Empire space to give the pirates things to do other than picking on carebears and carebears a non-PvP way of getting justice. (see Bounty Reform - Chapt 3: Solutions.) However, PvP is the economic engine for the game, and the ôworry of PvPö adds an element of excitement to keep it from getting boring even for the carebear who is not directly involved. While the wars for dominion go on around you, it is possible for the carebear to compete in their own slow and steady fashion and reap profit from the chaos.
I played Earth & Beyond ("EnB"), which was a PvE game that was much like Eve in other respects. Such PvE focused games require massive amounts of ongoing development to keep them fresh. Such massive development does not appear likely, given EveÆs track record of moderately paced development. EnB died, and I would hate for Eve to meet the same fate.
If you would like to explore the joys of 0.0 space without the PvP, then try out the test server. Non-consensual PvP is not allowed there. However, I am afraid you will find that 0.0 is very boring without the player pirates.

really?... I might be persuaded to move permanently on the test server if no pvp is allowed there. how many players there usually? I am sure I can get many friends come along with me on permanent basis. I know people who would be perfectly happy playing eve whithout pvp at all :)

The test server typically has less than 100 players on it. You must manually apply patches every week or so to use it continuously. (see EVE Online Test Patches.) They also reset the test server every few months, to bring it up to date with the main server. Any player gains or losses on the test server are erased in favor of whatever is on the main server when it is reset. Thus, your character on the test server can never advance more than a few months beyond your character on the main server. Though if you lose anything on the test server you will regain it when the server is reset.

Haha, yeah, have fun playing on the test server. Starting over every month and a half or so when the new TQ mirror is thrown on.
You'll have a blast.

Troye / DrLovejoy, I think he meant to say (correct me if I'm wrong Troye) that it's NOT what these forums are for.
In any case, I think a non-pvp server would be silly. You'd basically be asking the devs to provide a version of their game with a third of their hard work stripped out. I mean, maybe I'm missing something, but is mining roids endlessly really fun? Maybe I've been doing it wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I do feel it's tough to "cross over" from carebear to .0, and haven't made that move yet, (not really sure how to quantify what kind of resources I need before I could/should consider that move) but even so, I see the carebear space as a training ground for .0 where the game really takes off. Frankly I've gotten bored with safe space, but am too timid to venture in .0 because I got smoked in seconds last time I tried, so I haven't played much lately. But if somebody can enjoy themselves filling a jetcan, what's the need for a second server cluster? Just stay in the hundreds of safe systems, set your autopilot to stay in safe space, and voila!
