I am trying to kill this rat ship, I think it it called a Guristas Nullifier. Every time one of my missiles gets close to it the missile disappears and does no damage. The only thing I can hit it with are my hybrid turrets (I'm in a Merlin). What kind of weapons do I need to kill this thing?

missles only go so far. Rockets go 10km and light missles go 25km, so go closer to the guy for your missles to start hitting him. ------------------------- These are my views and don't necessarily represent my corp nor my alliance. |

I doubt you can kill Nullifier NPCs in a Merlin, not unless you got lots of high skills and use tech 2 equipment

Fit ion blasters to your Merlin, a rocket launcher with defenders, get up close and orbit at 500mm with your antimatter.
It'll die good.

it sounds good in principle, but NPCs don't travel alone, he'll get slaughtered :-/

Unless your using tech2 equipment you have a small chance, personally i think you would have a great chance in a kestrel, but you should realy be looking at a cruiser like a caracal.

That's a helluva tight orbit.

At 500mm he'd better watch the paintwork on his ship.

Use 2 150mm (named if possible) with Antimatter and 2 missile Launcher. In Medium slots 1 AB and 1 Shield Booster, Rest of your choice. Orbit the Nullifier at your optimal Range with continous running AB. Hit him with your guns and 1 missile launcher, second launcher fill with defender and stop his Missiles. So u should be able to kill him. He will rarely hit you with his guns, and his missiles will be intercepted by your defenders.

Just dont go strait for him, his guns will hit, approch at an angle.. I have killed most of the caldari ship flyin rats in my punisher, but thats only cos i can tank the missles long enough.. (one kinetic hardener helps ALOT)
A good tip if the rats has smaller buddies.... warp in at 60kms, and wait for the rats to approch, then keep the fastest at range (might be cruiser rat), when its a good distance from the rest approch at an angle, and once within 10-15kms click to orbit at your blasters optimal.

I was using flame and kinetic missiles at 22-23 km.

There were two others, Invaders I think, which I killed them off then I warped away to recharge.

I chose a Merlin because of it's better armor and shields, but that was when I started playing and I didn't know that missiles did more damage. I'm actually on my third merlin but maybe I should try a Kestrel. I don't have the skills for Cruisers yet.

This sounds like a good config, mainly because it is close to what I already have. The defender missiles sound good. I haven't used them before and have been relying on my shield booster 2. Do you know if this rat could have been using defenders and that is why my missiles weren't hitting him?

Then the guy was going away from you and on those 22-23 km your missles had to travel he had traveled 2-3+km more away from you, so your missles had to go more than 25km. ------------------------- These are my views and don't necessarily represent my corp nor my alliance. |

yes rats do use defenders. however u can do just fine with 2 standard launchers and 2 150mm guns with an ammo that gives u an optimal of about 20km. orbit at 15-20km with an afterburner and shield booster 2 and a cap charger to keep your cap up then in the lows try a tracking enhancer or magnetic field stabiliser to increase range/tracking or damage of the 150's. maybe both or maybe a capacitor power relay.
