By Forums, I mean, all forums. Not just the Eve forum. Broken is probably an exaggeration, but what I mean by this is that they're not fulfilling their intended function properly. These forums should be here to get an idea of what their whole player-base thinks about their game. At the moment the forums only show CCP what a very small minority of the forum users think.
What is happening, is that someone with no sense of how the game works posts something about how terrible Eve is and then everyone berates them for it. In turn making sure their thread stays at the top of the forum subsection and therefore making it one of the most read and discussed topics.
So what I'm basically saying is that half decent ideas or topics dont get any discussion and the terrible threads end up at the top. Where-by CCP only get to follow those terrible topics.
Instead of every post in a discussion shooting that thread right up to the top of the page, each post should raise it up by one place. And we should have a "Do Not Want!" button that will lower it by one place.
This isn't exactly a fully fledged idea, its just a concept. CCP needs a function within the forum to keep good, well thought through threads up the top of the forum pages where they can be seen and better discussed instead of all the crap that's there now. |

I said it wasn't a full fledged idea. It's just a concept, otherwise this would be in the Features and Ideas section. I am saying that we need some method of keeping **** threads that nobody wants there, away from the top of the forum. |

Not CCP, the players should have better control to show popular opinion. |

The "Dislike" button has always been a popular idea and it would certainly be a step in the right direction.

I think people are misunderstanding my intention.
I'm not looking for one method over any other. I just think CCP needs a better way to measure the popularity of ideas posted on this forum. The "Like the OP" system is terrible. We should be able to rate threads good or bad (rather than posts), and yes I know this would be prone to exploitation, but only as much as the system we have now. Even with people exploiting the system CCP would still be able to get a better idea about popular opinion.
That way, you could read a thread and show you don't support the idea, without bumping it to the top. Read it, down rate it, and move to the next one.
Barrogh Habalu wrote:I believe that forums should have "sage"-like function, i.e. you post without bumping the thread in which you post.
This is also a good idea, if you absolutely have to post to say how terrible a thread is, you should be able to do it without keeping the damn thread constantly talked about.

OP Updated.
bbb2020 wrote:Me think you / we should only be allowed to post once pr. half hour pr. player. As is, its the same xx number of players that post in every thread in here, some times many times in every thread, and many many times they just post nothing of interest to bump the thread and get as high a number in the "posted most time number game". By only allowing players to post once pr. half hour, the're forced to think before posting. Every post has to mean something.
NB: Should of course not apply for the OP.
This is moderation in it's extreme. And I don't think it would really help much. You may get fewer trolls posting, sure. But you would also end up with many massive walls of text, where people try to cram as much content into each post as they can. Aside from the idea just leaving a bad taste, it's also a little inconvenient for everyone.
Klymer wrote:Let's inject some risk into the forums and make three buttons, like, dislike and add bounty. To eliminate forum alts change it so that only the pilot on your account with the most time in space, as in the one you undock with the most, can post.
If a dislike button were to be added and some sort of ranking system used where by dislikes purged the thread from the system, I would prefer it be an individual setting that only effects what I see. By this I mean i go into my profile settings and say 10 dislikes will cause a thread to not be displayed. This way I can control only what I see, this way it's more pure content control and not just a popularity contest or some more ******** meta gaming. I mean what happens when two big alliances go to war and they start disliking each others posts? There's enough hate in the game as it is, allowing it to spill over into the forums via a ranking system is recipe for disaster.
This is pretty cool, although I'm not sure about the way of deciding which character is your main. That sounds a little extreme, although it would work fine for me, I'm sure there are ways this could be exploited. |

That's already how it works with the like button. I don't think there would be any more exploitation, just different exploitation, in a generally better system. |

Thanks for the support/rants/discussion/criticism so far guys, keep it coming.
There's an especially high number of terrible threads at the moment. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

The forums are fine as they are.
New layout won't stop terrible threads, the source of terrible threads are terrible players. This one being a prime example.
You didn't read any of this thread, did you? "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |
