Pope John Paul II died this evening. Please post here regarding this if you wish.
Remember that no matter what your own opinion may be this was a man who meant a lot to many around the world. If you can't post with respect, don't post at all.

A Great man he was. Did a great deal of good to this world more than most people could ever achive.
May we all thikn of him in our prayers and hope that he will find peace.
I can only hope that his successor will try to follow in his footsteps and complete what was started. And I also hope that the rivalry between Roman Catholic and Catholic churches be set aside and do what is truly right.

Wrangler, thanks for enough respect to sticky this. Cheered me up a bit after seeing a bunch of "Good riddance", "who cares", "I'm glad he's dead" kinda posts on other forums.
To us Catholics the loss of a Pope is as bad as losing a close family member.. if not worse.. I'm only 21 years old myself, so this is the only Pope I have ever known.. that only adds to the difficulty ________

I sorta respect the Pope and I sorta don't. But even I have to admit it's a very sad day when a well respected, and loved religious leader who's been around for such a long time finally gives up his ghost. I'm sure he'll be sorely missed and his successor will find he's got some great footsteps to follow in.

Regardless of what we belive or what religion we are he was one of the greatest man. Greatest in heart and in mind. He saw above differances and conflicts. He was a true example for us all how should we treat other ppl around us.
Greatest respect.
This is a sad day. -------------------

I didn't respect many of his opinions on certain subjects. Nor am I catholic or christian.
Nonetheless, he was an all-around great man, and I respect him more than I respect almost any others. If you don't know much about him, I suggest you read up on him, he's done alot to change world attitudes.
The world will be even darker without him, but lets hope the next pope is as benevolent at heart. The position of pope is such an important position in the world, not just for religion, but for politics and bringing people together.

Even if I am not a firm believer I will miss him, a lot.
A local television, here in Italy, had these words for him:
"Addio, caro Papa Luminosa scheggia di umanitÓ Albero ferito, Viandante di Cristo sullo stretto marciapiede della terra".
Probably that is what I'd have liked to say, if I had found the words.
Farewell man.

Religion doesn't matter, this was truly a great man and history will remember him as such and as will I, even if I am a bit of an atheist....
May he find eternal rest, wherever he is now, for he has done his part for the good of our world.

A very sad day. He was a true moral leader for many people, and without him the history of my country would have been very different. I owe him freedom and independence. R.I.P.

A little poem/prayer written by my sister-in-law to mark this sad loss to the World of a great man
Dear Lord,
How do you describe a Great man? He who was the shepherd of the flock Among us all for 26 years And with us he would walk He gave us a faith unshakeable His spirituality was felt by all sides Inspirational, with a huge moral voice A personality that was known worldwide You came for him when he needed You most Your loyal servant has now been called home The bells ring morosely as our candles are lit All over the world - not just in Rome All faiths, denominations - he reached us, every one That's how "great" Karol Wojtyla really was In an ever-changing world he gave stability But we all feel the gaping loss Lord, You've received the Pope into Your Kingdom Our Holy Father is now at peace Feel our love, receive our thanks As into Your loving care he is released.
AMEN
