Edited by: Juniper on 06/04/2005 23:51:10 This is probably the best thread I've ever read. Kudos to all involved, I really hope CCP are watching this one.
For my part - I agree completely. Get rid of highways. Space is meant to be big, really big, not a trip down the street to the chemist. That's peanuts to Space.
Player representation = bad idea. Good in theory, but would never work in practice, and would quickly lead to the elitist & priviledged view that another poster mentioned. Plus, anyone who was known to have CCP's ear would never get a minute's peace in the game (ppl saying to them "Can you suggest this?" and "Can we change that?"). It would be a nightmare. Web-site polls could be used though
e.g. a "What do you think is most important?" type of poll: 1. Titans 2. Implement X Exodus feature 3. Planetary flight 4. Bug fixes 5. etc.
EVE is a database. Statistics are built up every second, and that information can then be tracked & analysed. Most of what you do in the game is logged somewhere. You could therefore have a website poll to find out from the players what they think they're doing in the game - which psychologically speaking would tell them a LOT about how people actually see the game when measured against the stats of what they're actually doing. I think that would give a much more generalised & accurate pointer of where the players would like the game to go without actually reading 10 page threads of well-thought-out points.
Increased travel time = bad. With no highways in place though, everything would centre around your nearby systems and the requirement to move around so much may become less important, I dunno. But anything that changes the way warp works or introduces some point-to-point mechanism better be bloody well thought out in my view, or the whole thing would go completely ape.
Remove chokepoints = good. 'Nuff said. The lack of access to 0.0 for the general masses has I'm sure caused more people to quit over the 2 years than any other single issue in EVE.
Umm.. there's probably more, but I'm very sleepy & can't think of anything else to say.
