Can anyone explain me what the funtion will be of this new item.
Will that be something for putting grafitti on ships or bases just like what was possible in half life, or is the function of the the target painter something completely different. BTW, I looked in the item database but I think it is no yet integrated there.

Hmm no, not quite graffiti...
It will raise the signature radius of ur opponents ship, i.e. making it easier to hit. ........ There is a fine line between gate camping and just standing by a gate, looking like an idiot... |

i think its a peice of equipment that reduces or ehances signature radius from what i understand ie faster targetting or making it more slow for possible enemeis to target lock you

From what i heard its indeed a module that RAISES the signature radius of the targetted ship.
(meaning indeed that the ship will be faster locked).

Every turret has a sig radius at which it gets average hits. If the target sig radius is higher (say frig guns shooting a BS) it hits more often and does better hits, if the sig radius is a lot lower (BS guns vs frig) it doesnt hit as much and does less damage. Sig radius also affects locking speed.
The target painter increase the targets sig radius (similar to how a MWD does) and the *painters* sig radius. Its main use is going to be painting up frigs so that BS can lock faster and hit better. --------------------------------------------------

Target painters allow ships such as frigates to aid slower-tracking ships like battleships in battle, by making the target easier to hit. Currently, the only option there is to use webifiers to negate speed.

Though it's higly doubtfull any gang will have frigates doing this, since scrambling has become so much harder that you would rather have another tackler then a painter.

I hope there will also be a module that lowers sig radius, stealth field or something. Or we will see gate camps PWN everything in seconds, lots of whining on the forums and in the end the removal of this interesting tool!

Cool, thx for the linky
Looks like CCP thought about this, the CPU and PG look pretty balanced to me, hope it makes it into the upcomming patch.

Well if they make missiles damage based on sig, I guess the "must nerf missile threads" are here to stay...

I don't recall target painters increasing the signature radius of the 'painting' ship.
Can someone post the module description from Sisi please ?

I think the word is "Signature Resolution" for guns. Then "Signature Radius" for Ships.
200 Autocannon Projectile I - 40m Signature Resolution. 1400mm Carbine Howitzer I - 400m Signature Resolution.
Rifter Frigate - 35m Signature Radius Tempest Battleship - 340m Signature Radius
Not trying to sound like a Smart ass, just helping point out that fact so noone gets confused =)

Would be nice hehe, but on the subject of "Radius" for the New Players. Missile Bays don't use "Signature Resolution". However "Missiles, Torps ect" use "Explosion Radius".
