Yeah, i've always felt it should be that way, too.
Which probably comes as a surprise to some of you. I'm really not against EVE being dangerous at all, just take issue with all discussions about improving EVE degenerating into discussions about how we can screw with people in hisec.
The reason more people aren't in lowsec or 0.0 isn't because hisec is so awesome, it's because everywhere else is so bad. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

Agreed.
People have no desire to be easy targets. Attempts to make them easy targets is far more likely to force them to quit playing than have them suddenly accept being easy targets.

Actually, the main problem is that hisec people seem to be so anti-change that they react to anything with "OH MY GOD IF YOU NERF HISEC WE WILL ALL QUIT!!!!!!!", even if what's being talked about is a change which won't have that much impact on people living in hisec. And, of course, if asked what the problem is, they'll bring out the most extreme troll suggestions (at least I hope they were trolls) as justification for why nullsec is "out to ruin hisec". vOv

Oh well. vOv You forgot to mention that they're also busy making highsec safe from highsec guys too.
So you've also got all the highsec people who live in highsec just to shoot the people there who feel totally disenfranchised. And people keep telling me that we all have 300 neutral logistics/ganking/spy alts each so we must account for a significant number of subscriptions. |

1) How does them quitting improve the game for you? Turn all high sec into low sec (and by that I mean empty). Is the game now more fun for you?
2) The number of players in high sec proves the game has already been cat-ified. And CCP is the richer for it. It seems that you are asking for them the de-cat-ify it, and cost themselves income in the process. I would not hold my breath on that one, if I were you. Businesses are not in the habit of forgoing profit to appease a segment of their customers.

Solo, you basically cannot start a fight in low sec. You have to go to null, but to get to null, you generally have to go through low. This means you have to avoid multiple gate camps.
Maybe if there were more null systems connected to high sec so you wouldn't have to spend an hour jumping and avoiding getting ganked just to get to your destination.
The gate system and no free warp is annoying as well. There are systems where you cannot get any intel about a gate because of nothing adjacent to warp to. |

Hisec is the most frequently changed and nerfed place in EVE, so your claim just doesn't line up with reality. The whimper of complaint when its done is nothing compared to the deluge of tears people in 0.0 can summon over every little change in 0.0. Many times there were planned nerfs to 0.0 which were backed out of because people in 0.0 whined so loudly. No change to hisec has ever been backed out of because of complaints. Who would you say is being pampered?

While you're right, you HAVE to admit that local is a pretty dumb mechanic that AFAIK does not exist in any other game. Immediately being notified with information about people jumping into the same area as you, including hostiles? No game has that. Not even the most carebearish of MMOs have that. It is, quite simply, absolutely ludicrous on too many levels to even list them all without running out of characters.
Whatever else they do with this game, removing local is a very good idea. Not without adding a few things, like improving usability of D-scan and stuff like that. But it has to go at some point. Currently local just makes so many mechanics in the game a total joke that it's not even funny.

It's been a gradual process of minor nerfs. By the time the last nerf to mission loot happened there was hardly a whimper here on the forums about it, because we're all so used to it by now. While patches like Dominion focus entirely on pleasing people in 0.0 and throwing ISK faucets at them. The only true nerf i can recall happening to 0.0 is the Jump Bridge change of last year or two.
And i have to say, it appears CCP is moving in the right direction with upcoming hisec content, but the general attitude on the forums remains hostile and even insane towards hisec and those who live there. Even now they plan more nerfs and changes. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

nullsec nerfs: - The Dominion sov system - Supercaps (multiple times) - Unprobable ships - Anoms - Dysprosium - Neodymium - Technetium - Drone poo - Jumpbridges - Various complexes - The initial hisec incursions
Some of these are huge and game-defining, some of them are less so, but a majority of these make more of an impact on the day to day life than anything which has happened in hisec. I'm sure there are tons more nerfs which I've forgotten, but whatevs.
Bane Necran wrote:And i have to say, it appears CCP is moving in the right direction with upcoming hisec content Yes, EVE Online: Trammel lite is definitely "the right direction".
Bane Necran wrote:Even now they're dreaming up new nerfs for hisec to suggest to CCP. Which'll never happen since CCP are hell-bent on making nullsec worthless to live in, and they must protect hisec from bored PVPers as a result, so they're treating the symptom instead of the cause by trammelizing hisec more and more instead of fixing nullsec. And drive everyone to high-sec except when on roams? Local is a game mechanic needed to get some people out of high sec. Get rid of local, make it all as easy to kill people as wormhole.... then everywhere will be as empty as wormholes.
Get rid of local, and the whines about everyone being in high sec will increase 20-fold as the number of people in high sec sky rockets.
Oh... then we will have to nerf high sec... to drive poeple out of the game. That way EVE's 300K player base drops to 30K hard core PVPers sitting on titans hoping to out manouver each other with a bigger fleet than the other knows about. wouldn't that be bliss? |

I'm pretty certain the number won't skyrocket, since most people I know have hisec alts to start with, because it makes sense to use. But nullsec'll be emptier than it is today, this is a certainty.
